Be very careful on riding it on the weekends. The traffic on the winding roads is jam packed. This is because boaters love Canyon Lake and its between Apache Jct. and Tortilla flats. The boat trailers and trucks make for little room on the narrow two lane hwy. But catch this ride on a weekday and you'll love the scene scape. Once past Tortilla flats you'll eventually come to a dirt road (Apache Trail) so biking just past tortilla to roosvelt lake is a bust. Yuri, I've ridden the road beyond Tortilla Flat and it continues, STEEP UP, for another 4 miles beyond town. Then it turns to dirt, which I didn't explore. Got my all-time fastest speed on the descent from the end of the road back to TF. Only 52mph, dang it. :-/ p. I may beg for a big bike and join the monkeys depening on how I feel. Or I may just come and camp and imbibe in which case I can drive a shuttle. I eventually want to do a nice loing multiday tour but..... If you're looking for company/car bait on some of your exploration rides let me know. The dirt road is quite rideable and well worth it. There is an awesome ride along a cliff face that is very "Euro". Past TF the roads are very quiet. The same friend and I are thinking about using 'cross bikes to do a loop through the 4 peaks area and back to Apache junction vias Roosevelt. A |
