O.K. I've just about given up here. I was thinking about having a new wheelset built with 'Ambrosio' "Excellence" rims to my Chorus hubs, but cannot seem to locate any. I really want to use these rims as opposed to the Open Pro's, or CXP''s which are everywhere. Anyone have a link I could check out to try and find these bad boys.

Peter built me a pair on Chorus hubs. I think he got mine from the Colnago distributor but I think they no longer handle them. Nice wheels BTW.

They used to carry them and perhaps still do although I can't tell from their "upgraded" web site. Might be worth giving them a call. Ambrosio distribution in the US is pretty bad. That being said, it's not great in Europe either although the Excellence can be found after a bit of looking.

I have wheels built with the Excellence, Excellights and Balance's. I think that they're better finished than Mavic's, plus not everyone's riding them. Good luck.

Thanks Boneman, Picshooter, You've been a great help. I went thru 'the back door' at SJS Cycles and found the link to Deeside Cycles in the U.K. They carry the 'Excellence' rims. ( Now if I can get them to answer their e-mails) In your opinion~ are these rims as durable as OP's? I'm useing 'Open 4 CD's now, and want something different.

Try Ital Tecno at: http://www.ital-tecno.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=33

You might also check out Fir rims.

Interesting link to Ital-Tecno. I've never bought from them but if they're reputable, I'd go for the Excellights as they're a bit lighter than the Excellence. In answer to your question, yes, they are easily as durable as the OP's and their finish is better. Wheel builders in the UK really like Ambrosio's and it's not because they're easy to get or cheaply priced.

The Excellence used to have a nice small brass counterweight over the valve hole to balance the wheel. Not sure if they still have it which would be too bad.

If you're dealing with Deeside, I've worked with them before. Ask for Andrew Mason. Good bloke and helpful too. Most bike shops in the UK, while email capable, do not turn things around in real time so expect a day or two delay. It's better than when I went over in 1999 but it's not like it is in the US.

I find the 'Balance' to be very shallow making them very, very difficult to mount/remove tires. - TF

Hey, thats a great link. Hate to be a bother, but are the eyelets on the 'excellites' stainless or a bright shiny chrome appearance. All they have at that web site is black, which would look good with stainless eyelets, silver spokes, and hubs.

But the only tires I've had on them have been wire bead Armadillos and Gatorskins as they're on my fixed.

I'm pretty sure they're silver although I'm not sure if they're stainless or chrome. My guess is the latter.

Thanks a lot guys, and for the pic. Looks like it's narrowed down to the 'Excellites' or the 'Focus' for my next wheelset to build. Deeside never did e-mail me back though, ~ too bad.

Campione Cycles in VAncouver carries them.

Either at www.Cramerotti.com or www.Campionecycles.com

Both sites are same store, they don't do web ordering so take the phone number off the web-site and phone them.
