Friday, May 20th is the DC Bike to Work day, complete with a commuter convoy that will be guiding people from the burbs to the city. There is also dedicated "pit stops" along the way. This might be an opportunity to find some commuters going to Tysons. Plus there will be lots of free stuff!!!

bas, unfortunately you won't see me commuting there though I hope to do some commutes on the Mt. Vernon Trail.

Some questions for the days I can take long rides and head out your way. From Four Mile Run Trail I would have to take the route marked with a blue dashed line (http://www.wodfriends.org/map17.html) ("on street sidewalk connection") to get to WO&D? I would like to try the WO&D one day rather than continuing south on the Mt. Vernon Trail. It also looks like Four Mile Run and WO&D share a trail for a while after that or are they right next to each other?

Are there any places to stop for water or juice on or near the WO&D?

I'm only familiar with Four Mile to the intersection of West and Sout Glebe.

Thanks.

Ahh - Mt Vernon Trail - my commuting path to the Pentagon over the last 2 years..

Yes that is the 'bypass'...

There is a water fountain near the FireStation..but thats a ways away.. umm -
Shirlington has some restaurants there..

I'm sure over at route 7 - there is a 7-11 or gas station near by the bridge..

WO&D and 4 mile run are separate - WO&D is more a regular path - and the 4 mile
run is right next to the streams and is more radical.. a little harder to navigate
when you have to cross the streets cuz I end up losing my direction and trying
to find where to get back on..

I used to live in Park Fairfax...great neighborhood next to the four mile trail. When you reach the corner of S. Glebe and W. Glebe continue left of W.Glebe (toward 7-11) and swing a right onto Valley Drive (300 meters), this merges into Martha Custis Drive on the right and follow that to a right on Gunston Rd. That will put you on a safer route across 395 and connect you to Shirlington where, as you asked above, FMR and WO&D run next to each other but seperated by Jennie Dean Park . To use the FMR trail take a right on S. Quincy to a left on S. Arlington Mill Dr. This runs through to South Walter Reed Dr. then go left to connect back to WO&D.

Fresh Fields is at mile marker 12.5. (133 Park St. NE, Vienna; call 703-319-2000.

Great Harvest Bread Company is a block past Fresh Fields (make a detour to the left on Church Street, go 1 1/2 blocks and look to the left).

Wrap Works at Reston Town Center 1820 Discovery St.; call 703-318-5200

Lee's Ice Cream & Deli 11917 Freedom Dr.; call 703-471-8902

Thanks. It's 13 miles from my house to Georgetown on the CCT, so going all the way to W&OD I'll either need more than two water bottles or to stop and refill. If it's nice on Sunday, I may try to get out there and do 60-70 total miles. I want to get at least one long ride in before I commute the 60-mile round trip to work.

ElvisMerckx, funny I didn't notice that. I drive under the W&OD bridge on the Beltway every workday and knew what it stood for. :)
