They had a story about Mike Anderson, a former bike mechanic and close friend of Lance, supposibly finding steroids in Lance's house in Spain while getting it cleaned and ready for Lance to arrive after his 2004 TDF victory. There is now a lawsuit between the two.

I've never heard of this Mike Anderson but, he is supposibly a real close aquaintance of Lance and was offered a position on Lance's team, but turned down the offer just the same. You can catch the story again on Sportcenter again at 11:00 eastern time, which will feature a bit more information regarding this subject.

I saw it. Not surprised to tell you the truth.

It is fishy that the guy came forward after he got fired (6 months later in fact), and he still didn't actually get any proof. We only have the word of some guy that got fired.

I'm not a huge Lance fan, but I hope this is proven to be false for the sports sake.

[Edit]
I believe that Mike Anderson said the drug in question was "androstenedione", which was the same drug that was found in Mark McGwire's locker during his 70 home season (1998).

The story is on ESPN.com too. It seems pretty dubious. The drug is question is an Andro variant - hardly something that an endurance athlete would benefit from.

How in the world do you suppose his accusation could be proven false, anymore than it could be proven true? This is clearly one persons word against anothers, and in this case, you know who everyone is going to believe.

Well, in a perfect world Mike Anderson would admit to making it up (if that's the case).

However in the world we live in, if the accusation is not proven true, then it's the same as having been proven false. Make sense?

No, not really. You're just left in limbo, not knowing one way or the other, which is really about the only way this will end up unless Anderson or Armstrong admit they're lying and that is exceedingly unlikely.

Lance and Mike were close even going so far to say that Mike had become an inner circle guy with Lance. I know Mike well having worked with him for several years leading up to his employment with Lance. There are some added details in the MSNBC story below that help clarify things but suffice it to say that Mike handled numerous things for Lance and had his complete trust.

Only two people know if this is true and I suspect it will stay that way.

There are all kinds of drugs these guys take that have little or no scientifically proven beneficial effects for endurance sport.

I take it he's not in the circle of trust anymore?

I think the story was on Velonews or something. Anyway he got fired, then sued by Lance. He countersued, and was ordered to produce for evidence for his countersuit (or face dismissal I imagine) and all of a sudden he comes up with these new claims. What a surprise!

Of course he has no evidence or no compelling explanation as to why he didn't ever mention this before.

Here it is:

http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/7774.0.html

Armstrong and his personal service company, Luke David LLC, sued Anderson about a month later, claiming Anderson demanded Armstrong pay him $500,000, give him a signed Tour de France jersey and future endorsements to help him set up his own bike shop.

Anderson counter-sued, accusing the cyclist of fraud, breach of contract and causing him severe emotional distress. Anderson says an e-mail Armstrong sent to offer him the job promised the help and should be considered a binding contract.

Anderson said Armstrong also demanded he sign a confidentiality agreement that would have held him liable for up to $1 million in damages.

Thursday's filing was because the court wanted more details in support of Anderson's claim.
