I've been trying to get to Hains Point in DC but I can not manage to get there.

I have the WORST sense of direction ever, but no matter how hard I try to drive or ride there I can't find it. I've mapped out exactly how to go, but somehow I manage to get way lost. Also, in the last year I have never ventured into the District on my own and ever made it where I was trying to go. I know, I'm pathetic.

Anywho, would anyone be willing to try and draft up a brief set of directions to help a poor lost lad find his way down there? I'm coming from the Bethesda/Rockville area. Any sort of advice or pointers on what to look for would be great.

Last time I tried there was some construction around the Jefferson circle thing so I'm not sure if that's changed things. I couldn't find any signs for the things I was looking for (Ohio Dr., Hains point, East potomac park, nothing) and I had no idea visually what I was looking for. I've researched this thoroughly and asked numerous people, but I haven't gotten a good response. If anyone could help me out at all it would be amazing.

The biggest, most obvious landmark is the Jefferson Memorial. If you are near that, you are very, very close.

The easiest and least confusing way to get there is to take the road (don't know the name) that runs along the Tidal Basin and up to the Jefferson Memorial. It's the road with all of the Cherry Blossom traffic.

Heading in the direction of the river/bridge, you will soon see a "t" intersection on your left. The road shoots south, under 395. Take that road. It leads you directly to Hains Point and the park. If you reach the Jefferson Memorial before turning you have gone too far.

Here's a map.

I ride by there every stinking day for six years, and you'd think by now that I could explain to people where these things are....

OK thanks a lot. That map really helped. There was a lot of construction around there last time I tried and I didn't see signs, but I'm pretty sure I know what I'm shooting for now. Thanks yall.

If you are going West on Independence, make a left on 15th SW, that will take you towards the memorial. YOu will hit that T intersection and there will be a brown sign for East Potomac Park and Hains point.

Good luck!
