This has been posted for sale online a couple of times, with the starting price dropping each time. The seller won't come out and say what he wants for it (there is a reserve), but he seems willing to make a deal. So what does everyone think it's worth? My fiancee really likes it because the frame matches her mountain bike...

Also, what do you think of the bike in general? It's got a really mixed bag of components. Is it a good buy if she'll like it? (We started her out on an entry-level bike with Sora, and she's complained about acceleration/braking from day one; now the shifting is starting to annoy her).

K2 road bikes do not hold value very well. That is in no way to say they are not good bikes it is just that K2 is not known for road bikes as much as other products. With a mix of components like are on this bike it leads me to beleave that it was thrown togeather just to sell. Again this does not mean that they don't all work great it does not lend itself to a good sale price.

considering a brand new 2005 mod 3.0 with all 105 can be purchased from REI for $1100 (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&catalogId=40000008000&storeId=8000&partNumber=716175&memberId=-2000&link=1&cm_ven=ad_Froogle&cm_ite=datafeed&source=9081&cm_pla=na&cm_cat=datafeed)
I would be surprised to see this one go for $1000.00 and would not be surprised to see the high bid under $800.00

I might be a great deal at that price if it fits your needs.

Thanks for the thoughts.

The seller hasn't had much interest and has offered $810. I'm thinking I should keep looking, that buys alot of used bike these days.

Man, that thing's a pieced-together mess. I wouldn't personally go over $600 new for it.

When I say a mess, it's not to say that it doesn't ride smoothly, just that there's no coherence to what it's got on there. I buy a lot of bikes on eBay, some I keep, some I part out, some I ride awhile and resell as is. But one thing I look for when I buy a bike on eBay is to know that I'll be able to break even or make money when I sell it, or at the very least, not lose too much money. This bike takes too much work to even figure out what's on it, plus K2 isn't that great a draw anyway. (My MTB is a K2 and I'm perfectly happy with it, but they don't get much attention in the road world.)

Three weeks ago, I bought a Cannondale CAAD 3 frame with FSA RD 400s and Centaur 10 speed for $760. Cannondale's low-end frame, but a good race bike if you want something to beat up, and a real fair component set. Comparatively, a much better bike that what you're looking at there for $810. There are still good deals out there, with patience. (Actually, Centaur bikes tend to be some pretty good deals. Maybe check out that or Veloce if you like Campy. Lotta bang for the buck there on eBay.)

Thanks for the advice- I did end up looking around some more and I just got a 2003 Litespeed Capella with 1500 miles in good shape (one of the shifters has a little scuff no big deal) for $800 off eBay. Nice seller, bike was never wrecked/raced. And it was local, so no shipping. Full ultegra with Mavic Cosmos wheels. That'll hold its value alot better.
