I have a custom Curtlo outfitted with a Dimension steel disc fork with Avid road disc brakes. I'm thinking about shaving a bit of weight off of the bike and the Nashbar disc cross fork looks very interesting as it appears to be the same as the Winwood Muddy Cross fork. I believe it is also the same fork spec'd on the Redline and Salso disc cross bikes. My only concern is how much abuse can this fork take as I occassionally take this bike off-road on mild to medium technical trails. I've raced this bike in mountain bike races and it has held up well. I don't want to move to a carbon fork and have to baby the bike. My LBS did not have an answer for me as all they said was that when carbon fails, it fails catastrophically. I'd appreciate to hear of other's experiences and type of riding when using the above forks. Thanks in advance.

I have the Nashbar fork on my Surly Crosscheck and have been riding it since last summer. I ride a lot of rough singletrack with it and weigh 185 pounds, so far it has held up fine. I beleive it is made in the same factory as the Winwood among others.

Thanks for your post. It is reassurring to hear that the fork can hold up to more technical riding. I'm still on the fence about purchasing one, but I leaning towards pulling the trigger and buying it. Thanks again.

I'm going to buy the nashbar cross fork soon. I suppose anything is better than that harsh as hell steel thing that comes with the kona jake the snakes.

My wife is looking into a Curtlo Cross frame being built for her. How was Doug to deal with and did he build you a custom frame? or did you buy it from someone else? How do you like it and how about a pic?
