okay its between these two for my first cx bike. wondering if anyone has any strong feelings either way-esp. if anyone owns either of these bikes.
for my part i'm torn between the steel frame and eyelets of the poprad, and the light weight/components of the rivet.

thanks!

got the 2004 poprad mostly because i was able to ride it and the rivet wasn't going to be available until june. of course days after i got the poprad i learned the rivet was going to ship and be ready in a week.
but is too late.
would like to have tried both, BUT i do love the BLACK color of the poprad and the steel frame which i rode up sullivan cyn. in LA for my first ride.
i ordered some cross specific truvativ cranks as soon as i got home. WHY that bike comes (for 2004 anyway) with 42/52 double chainrings is beyond me. a slow, slog up hill. also thinkng about a carbon fork from nashbar. oh, and i put on some larger (35cm) ritchey cross tires. MUCH better than the stock bontrager tires for off road.
the biggest drawback of the bike (other than the crank) is that its just a pound or two heavier than i wish it was. carbon seatpost and fork maybe will help with that.
also i read on this site about the seat not being comfortable. it might also not be the lightest, but i think i kind of dug it, although i wish it were a bit skinnier.

My 2004 Poprad came with a 39/53 double Bontrager crank (which I promptly switched out for a 39/53 Ultegra crank).

Still high for CX gearing but not a 42/52. Maybe your LBS changed the chainrings or cranks for some reason?

ah, yes you are probably right about the chainring size. but still. the standard road double is a little stiff riding up the santa monica mountains. for me, anyway...

how do those bikes compare to the specialized tricross?
