I'm looking to pick up a steel Bianchi track bike. The bike I ride now is 54 c-c. However Bianchi does a 55 and a 53. I don't know if I should err on the side of a bigger or smaller frame. Btw, I'm 5'9" and my inseam is about 32". I know sizing is strictly a question for each individual. Just curious if anyone has some insight on this or has been faced with a similar sizing dilemma.

I can give you some measurements from my three-year old Bianchi "Pista" - NOT the more expensive "Pista Concept". I assume the less expensive "Pista" is the "track bike" you're talking about.

Factory sticker on my frame says 57cm, which is bottom bracket to top of seat tube. Because the seat tube protrudes quite a bit above the top tube, this nominal 57cm frame is 54cm center-to-center. The Pista has a high bottom bracket, so standover is a long 83cm - something to keep in mind. By the way, the Bianchi web site geometry chart proclaims that it gives standover in millimeter, but the numbers are clearly inches.

Bottom line: see if you can test-ride the Pista. Your road bike frame numbers don't transfer well to that bike.

Yeah you're right: it is the less expensive one that I'm considering. Thanks for the info. Didn't realize that they measure from center to top. So, I would be in the 55 range or perhaps even 57 range, by their measurements. But I definitely need to get myself on a couple to determine for sure.

Yes, 55 or even 57 could fit you. I normally don't even consider standover on a properly fitted road bike. But as I said, the Pista is tall. You might have to get used to "climbing aboard," especially if the 57 fits you. On the track, of course, standover is a complete non-issue.
