Seminar Discussing Speed Advancements Visits Austin, Texas, on April 30th
April 22, 2005
SEATTLE - As the world leader of interactive software and training devices, RacerMate Inc. is again taking the forefront in the study of speed with the discussion of the company's SpinScan technology at the 11th Annual Science of Speed (S.O.S.), a six-city symposium series developed by Inside Triathlon magazine.
Participants in Science of Speed will be able to experience the benefits of CompuTrainer
SpinScan technology as a part of the seminar's product demonstrations. The SpinScan feature provides a multi-color torque graph, representing one full 360-degree pedal revolution divided into 15-degree segments. It will identify "flat" or "dead" spots in the pedal stroke where optimal power is not being transferred to the drive train. Experience has shown that after an initial pedal stroke evaluation with the SpinScan, most people can improve their pedaling efficiency by as much as 20-25% in their first session alone simply by making improvements to bike position. Once in the optimal position, additional gains of 10-15% are possible using the feedback from SpinScan while riding courses and doing drills that address the weak areas of the pedal stroke.
Launched in 1994 at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, Science of Speed has been the key seminar at the world's most famous triathlon. This is the first year that S.O.S. has been held in cities that extend beyond the Ironman backdrop. "I came in and decided it was a great program that we could expand," explains Amy Walker, Marketing Manager for all of Inside Communications titles, including Inside Triathlon. "Kona is at the end of the season and the athletes that take part there are generally experienced. We wanted to bring information to athletes with a range of skill levels. We wanted to have the seminar earlier so that they would get the opportunity to utilize it in their training earlier on. It gives them a chance to take in the benefits of what they have learned at the seminars and they can see how seeing the results increase
throughout the competitive season."
Science of Speed, hosted by leading local retailers in six key U.S. sports markets, will feature top panelists lending insight in their respective areas of expertise. The success of Science of Speed comes in the one-on-one interaction that participants receive with the experts, giving athletes individual attention suited to meet their specific needs. Professional triathletes Cam Widoff and Karen Smyers joined swim coach Steve Tarpinian, and nutritionist Monique Ryan in kicking off the S.O.S. seminar series last month with a 3.5-hour interactive session at New York City's SBR MultiSport store. The seminar then moved west to Los Angeles, where professional triathlete Melanie McQuaid, coach Joel Friel, and physiologist Allen Lim joined the panel discussion hosted by the L.A. Tri Club. The next seminar is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at Austin Tri Cyclists in Austin, Texas.
The seminars are designed as a means of bringing recognized experts in the fields of nutrition, conditioning, training, racing and equipment together to share their knowledge with an enthusiastic and committed audience of competitors of all abilities. This gives athletes chance to keenly engage in dialogue on the latest information and training techniques that assist in speed generation and the overall improvement of race times.
Remaining Science of Speed seminar dates:
April 30 Austin Tri Cycles Austin, TX
May 26 BikeSource Denver, CO
June 18 Grand Performance Minneapolis, MN
