I need to replace the shoe plate on a pair of Adidas SPD MTB shoes. I was wondering if pretty much any place will fit since it seemed to look like the plates I've seen in other shoes or are they pretty specific to each manufacturer? In other workds could I just drop a Specialized or Shimano plate in there?
Thanks.

It is possible that the reason you're not getting replies to your question is that some of us have no idea what you mean by "shoe plate." Are you talking about the cleat that is screwed to the bottom of the shoe and engages the pedal? If yes (it's called a pedal cleat, not a shoe plate), you need to get the cleat that matches your pedal. This typically means the same brand and model as the pedal, though occasionally you find someone who makes aftermarket cleats that match the OEM units. If by "shoe plate" you mean the footbed or insole that goes inside the shoe, then you can buy generic insoles and cut them to size.

Actually the shoe plate is the metal plate that goes inside the shoe that the cleat attaches to. For SPD pedals there are 4 bolt holes in the plate. My concern was that different shoe manufactures make slightly different shaped plates as long as the 4 bolts are aligned to the SPD standard. So after I finished riding yesterday I stopped by a shop and pick up a pair of replacement Shimano plates since they're pretty cheap and found that they work just fine inside my Adidas shoes. Thanks for your help though.
