yeah, i know. im just a poser. but every blue moon i ride my bike the 25 miles to work, then do the same 25 miles home. today was the first commute of the year. my wife and i are expecting our first kid in a few months, so i will be "on call" and unable to ride in much. i know, excuses, excuses.

anyway, my hammys are a bit tight. hope they hold up for the uphill ride home.

things i saw:
36 degrees on my thermometer
5 horses
2 goats
1 dead opossum
1 great blue heron
1 male driving a blue volvo in the oncoming lane giving me the bird for no reason
3 thumbs up
my heart rate jump from 133 to 161 for no reason
6 joggers
1 nice roadie who waved
1 roadie who turned his head when i waved
the inside of the "mother's room" at work when i changed

things i smelled:
horses
skunk

things i heard:
my wife plead, "please be careful. youre gonna be a dad soon ya know"
my dog whine
3 cars pass a little too close
my tail light commit suicide by jumping from my seat bag to under the wheel of a minivan
"you rode how far?"

things i wish i had on the commute:
gloves (my own fault)
700C wheels
a camera
a stable tail light
a shower at work
5 minutes with mr. volvo. could be just to talk, have coffee, get my fight club on...

all in all, a great way to start celebrating the day mexico discovered condiments:
cinco de mayo.

I too wish you had brought a camera. Not that your report was bad at all, however.

Sounds like a good commute. Cameras are nice to have along but I've almost killed myself more than once trying to snap a shot and ride at the same time. This is a new thing for me and I'm having problems coordinating the balancing of the camera, watching where I'm going, and shooting the shot all at the same time. I wish my commute was longer. When I do ride it's only 1.5 miles unless I zigzag the streets along the mountainside of the town. The only things along my 1.5 miles are a Mormon church, a highschool, and a gas station.
