I've got a series of big regional races this coming weekend. A 33 mile RR Friday evening, Saturday is Snake Alley Crit (which I'm going to pass on since I ain't no climber),
Sunday is a big crit with a bit of a hill and Monday is a a flat crit. All are large regional races. I'll be doing the Cat 4/5 on Friday and Masters 40+ on the two crits (I might do only one of the crits depending on how I'm feeling)

I raced yesterday and was felling good (at least for a 48/49 year old). I'll stay off the bike today. The rest of the week I'm not sure if it's best to stay off the bike and just get out for a short intense ride midweek or get out and do easy work on the bike.

I would like to know your thoughts? I have a tendency to do spurts of intenstity when I'm on easy rides so I'm thinking I'm better off staying off the bike except for a mid week tuneup. Again. what are your thoughts?

The standard advice is to maintain intensity but cut volume in half. That means if you have been doing 6 "spurts" on each ride, do 3. If you've been doing 2 hours, do 1. Since your race starts on Friday, you really are looking at only 4 days of taper, so that's certainly not too much. Be sure to include some intensity on Thursday. The best day to take "off" would be Wednesday.
