Yes, yes... that was an unsuccessful attack... I think on either the 2nd prime lap or on the last one. I seem to have a bad habit of attacking right before they rang the bell for a prime. I liked attacking at the finish line, though. It's fun to hear the race announcers mangle my last name.
I like this one better, it shows my hot calves. http://www.pbase.com/dens/image/43829172

Yep, I had noticed that one too. Add me to the VonTeity fan-club!
How hard can that be to pronounce? (Try going through life with the b*stardized Polish name of Leptuck!) The German pronounciation rules state with E-I combinations, you pronounce the 2nd vowel as it's long sound, and ignore the 1st. Of course if you're Dutch, that rule might be completely different.
Here's me in 2nd place with two corners to go... too bad I didn't swing to the outside line for the 3rd and 4th turns; I got caught on the inside and passed by a bunch of guys. Still salvaged 8th. If only I hadn't spent those nearly 3 full laps out front only halfway through the race...

Nice work! Yes, it's pronounced long i (as in Ti[tanium]). Unfortunately, race announcers usually make it to the "von", get stumped and say, "Well, anyway..." Either that, or they pronounce it long e or short i. Yuck. :(

Try having a -uck at the end of your name; it made for easy pickings by the witty schoolyard hooligans!
Pronouncing your name as if it were T-IE-tenberg, well, all the dairy farmers would go looking for their milking apparateses now wouldn't they? (though why isn't THAT apparati? Latin, singular -us and plural -i for 2nd declension masculine nouns and all?)
At least my parents will be glad to know I retained SOME of that high school education...
Oh, I also remember 22 is the atomic number for Titanium, my favorite metal. Doesn't everyone have a favorite metal, or am I the only engineer-geek out there?

Yes, that would be why my bike is named Two-two. ;)
mleptuck 05-25-2005, 03:54 PM Ah, we computer professionals all seem to share many common traits (though I haven't named any of my bikes). Primarily, using obscure references and names for things -- two-two being a perfect example. Reminds me of a name we gave a hockey teammate in college. A 'cementhead' is a pretty derogatory tag for a hockey player (usually meaning a guy who found success with his knuckles rather than his skating abilities). We had a guy on our team who fit the bill perfectly, and he didn't even catch on when we dubbed him 'Portland' to his face. Ah, I'm cracking myself up here...
Next time I see you at a race, I'll introduce myself -- I imagine it would be a little more 'normal' if you at least knew me from RBR before I said 'hi', you know, just to cut down on the internet creepiness factor!
I almost said 'hi' on Sunday, but had my daughter in tow after the kids' race (my wife had had enough bike racing by that point and left for home!), and the kiddo was in dire need of food after I made her watch half of the 3/4 race as well...
Next time, I guess.

Bikereg filled up pretty fast and I was unable to get into the 4/5 race, so I had to race the 5. But, that enabled me to photograph the 4/5 race before I left. I did pretty good and managed a 7th place finish out of 50.(my best so far). Those of you who didn't get to race at 8:00am missed the wet man hole covers in the turns... pretty exciting. Here are some photos for you: http://www.phattire.net/krispy (concentration on my teamates - LSV)
By the way, the photos that you guys were linking to were taken by a friend of mine Dennis Smith. Excellent sports photographer who also races as a cat 3 or Master as well as an Expert class for mountain biking and also B or Masters for Cross. All around cool guy, check his site here: http://www.dennisbike.com
Below, one of me that Dennis caught with his Canon 10D. (I'm in the arm warmers)
mleptuck 05-26-2005, 03:21 AM ... that passed me on the outside in turns 3 and 4 of the final lap!
I was 2nd wheel up the hill (evidence!):
http://www.pbase.com/dens/image/43759785
, and just as I went to move to the outside, there was a wheel there, and I got stuck on the slow line. About 10 of you guys streamed around the outside of me, but I was able to take back 2-3 people on the downhill sprint (sometimes weighing 192#s is a good thing), and finished in 8th, right behind you.
I totally agree about the wet manhole covers and prominent road paint -- it made things much more interesting, and I am REALLY surprised no one went down in the 5-only race, especially when you factor in the narrow curbs coming off of turn two.
This race is a keeper for next year's schedule, for sure.

come on...admit it....you were FLEXING!!!

Sadly, I wasn't. My calves are honestly that cut!
If only my quads could be that cut...
aaroncvc 06-01-2005, 09:39 AM first nrc crit - of course it had to be in a storm with sideways rain. i'm about to get shelled in this photo. only 3 amateurs finished.
is that Baltimore, Aaron?
cbass 06-01-2005, 11:40 AM you guys had the epic weather for the start of your race....35mph+ winds and a lot of rain.
it looked brutal.
plus, it started like a 'cross race...all out sprint. it looked like single-file with gaps everywhere from the gun. if you didn't start near the front you were hosed.
frank "the legend" mccormack was out there the day before on his bike scouting out the course and figured that a fast start would shell a lot of people quickly...no surprise that his squad was prepared for the carnage & took 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, & 8th...that's good cabbage out of a $10k prize list!
the break was just chugging along. mark mc looked like he was just cruising. all 3 of the guys that stayed away were impressive.
the sun came back out for our race (4), though the standing water on the course made for fun times!
aaroncvc 06-01-2005, 05:27 PM bill - it is indeed bmore.
i almost won greenbelt A race tonight. jumped from the base of the hill - i told my teammate that i was leading him out, i looked under my arm after 3 seconds and he was not there - huge gap to the field. can't exactly sit up - but i died. had i jumped like 1 second later i'd have had it. that's the nice thing about greenbelt - there's always next week.

way, cool, Aaron. You'll get there, man.
although that's a long hill to make it up solo. gets longer every damn time I go up it.
