Here is the web site. http://durango100.com/ I'll be there (not like that is a big incentive or anything) It does hurt a little. The first 80 miles aren't bad, but then you have to climb back up from La Plata to Wildcat Canyon. It's a blast - I highly recommend it. theBreeze 06-02-2005, 06:58 AM Looks like it could hurt a little. Nah, won't hurt at all. I rode it the summer before last and had my fastest time ever on a century. The first 52 miles to Farmington are practically all downhill. The return is all back up, but never steep, I found i could keep rolling along pretty good, even solo. It's still a pretty small ride, less than 200 riders I would say. After mile 65 or so the one guy I had fell into working with couldn't keep up and I ended up going it alone the rest of the ride. I really want to do it again, after missing it last year, but my son finishes at music camp that weekend and I probably will be going along to pick him up. Maybe I can talk my way out of it. I'm not sure I really believe the elevation gain they claim for the route. If it is really 4.000+ ft it is all gradually gained and not that noticible. wasserbox 06-02-2005, 07:20 AM I'm not sure I really believe the elevation gain they claim for the route. Believe it, or not.... <img src=http://durango100.com/profile-100.gif> theBreeze 06-02-2005, 11:29 AM Wow, Well, it didn't feel that hard. :) Maybe there was a good tailwind on the return? Still, it's a wonderful ride and I would do it again if my scheduel allows. Anyone going, definatly take the cutoff to Marvel. The town's folk there love the riders. It was the best aid stop on the whole route. I think everyone who lives there, granted not a lot, helps out. wasserbox 06-02-2005, 11:58 AM Anyone going, definatly take the cutoff to Marvel. No kidding - I don't think you can avoid taking the cutoff, but it is absolutely worth the stop. I felt like some kind of pro-rider pulling in there... One guy runs out and grabs my bike, someone else is taking my water bottles to be refilled.. someone else is bringing me bananas... kind of like a nascar pit crew. |
