View Full Version : Unethical practise??
nutrire 05-31-2005, 08:01 PM Hi all bikers,
I am a newbie to this site and I must say I am really impress by the host of information posted here and the friendly people. However, i must mentioned that just a week or so back i bought a Titanio from the classified.. I would assume that "bought" means the seller proposed a final price and I agreed. But much to my surprise during our conversation as to how the bike should be delivered, the seller left town and returned in abt 4 days and inform me that the bike is sold...I strongly believe that at least the seller should have the courtesy to come back to me ,make an excuse or whatsoever for not selling the bike to me.... but merely reappear again only to tell me its gone to someone else.ITS UNETHICAL!!. I am just wondering is this a common practise at this site.. ?????
I hope not...

Bikinfoolferlife 05-31-2005, 09:42 PM So you're right in the middle of making the shipping arrangements and this guy says, hey, I've got to split right now, we'll finish later? This was after you negotiated a different price from the asking price? Did you have a solid deal or not? Did you give him a deposit?
How can we comment on your post at all? We weren't there and your description certainly isn't that detailed. You were dealing with one person, don't think anyone could make generalizations about the the integrity of all classified users on this board based on that..any more than we can tell whether you can close a deal or not.

Sadly i didnt have a chance to move to the deposit bit and he was gone. i would have gladly place a deposit if he wishes.. The seller mentioned a counter price and I accepted . I requested for the full specs and was given. I gave him the shipping address, agreed to pay cash upon delivery which was the prefered mode of payment by the seller. He left for Maryland and promised to get back to me and continue to work on the delivery and payment. Yes `return` he did only to tell me that he sold the bike to someone else!!
I am in no position to generalise the integrity of the folks here on this board, I believe they mostly straight and nice folks, what i am saying is merely trying to report an incident.

filtersweep 06-01-2005, 04:19 AM I know it can be disappointing, but you probably dodged a bullet.
I hate selling through classifieds. I much prefer ebay. Recently I sold a huge mixing board that I didn't want to ship, so I used craig's list. All sorts of "tire kickers" responded. My attitude was the first person to show some cash walks away with it.
If your "conversation" was by phone, it is unfortunate. If it was through email, he was probably keeping several plates spinning, anticipating that some or all would eventually back out of the deal- which usually happens.
Regardless, if you truly feel it was an "ethical issue" you are probably better off, since you could presume the condition of the bike was misrepresented, etc...
Lifelover 06-01-2005, 05:12 AM I see you posted the same thread in the "Classifieds feedback" forum. If you really feel he did you wrong you should mention his name over there.
JUst be thankful you did not get scammed!
nutrire 06-01-2005, 05:27 AM Hey guys,
Thanks for those comforting words. Yes indeed, I"ll be much better off buying from ebay...and rightly said..consider myself lucky..the item can be largely misrepresented.

what your seller did was definitely not right. it doesn't count as a major breach of ethics, but it's not right. post his name and the details of the incident in the classifieds feedback and let people judge for themselves.
nutrire 06-01-2005, 04:36 PM He is trying to sell a Colnago Titanio..he just claimed that he was talking to 8 others at the same time..Well, thats fine with me but he should not say he will sell me the bike for an agreed sum and only to reappear to say that he sold it to someone else......
anyway.. its a good lesson learnt
