for History Day but when I got onto that 'not trustin' my guv'ment' thang it got me thinkin'
LBJ and Co (Dems) lied to us (Gulf of Tonkin) and got us into a quagmire of a war with a poor or no exit strategy. The difference between LBJ and W is the dem party said, well ya lied, we won't support you and he did not seek re-election. The Cons had no such integrity.
anyone care to discuss, I'm no expert here.

I'm also no expert, but I would argue that the Democrats didn't exactly take the high road that you imply. LBJ did not seek a second term, but he had already served a term-and-a-half, so while it was possible for him to seek re-election, he was already sort of at the two-term limit. The Democratic party actually nominated Hubert Humphrey, who had been LBJ's Vice-President, and was not an "anti-war" candidate - hence the visions of the 1968 Convention. The Democrats nominated Humphrey despite the anti-war movement, not because of it (and quite possibly lost the election as a result).
We wouldn't exactly be applauding GWB's integrity if he had stepped aside and let Cheney run for President, would we?

About half right. LBJ dropped out before the primaries because his best advisors said he was going to get his ass kicked, so it would be better if he did not seek another term. He handed the reigns to someone less offensive to the country at the time, but he would have lost and lost badly if he had run. Remember Nixon was calling for an end to the war with words like "peace with honor" which became vietnamization, then carpet bombing southeast asia leading us to Pat Buchanan blaming deep throat for the war.;)

get the vote of non confidence from his party? Didn't the dem nat party say 'don't'
It was before my time and anything I've read (lost in memory) or just fuzzy. Know they nominated Humphrey but I thought it was LBJ not seeking due to party lack of support
