Hello again. I forgot to combine this with my previous post about cassette selection:

Based on that thread, I will either stick to the 12-25 configuration cassette or move to a 13 type set up. (all 9 speed) (SRAM or Shimano--each offering set ups that differ).

Once I select the cassette, I have to select a chain. I was considering a Shimano Ultegra or SRAM 89 or 970. The SRAM's easy removal is very attractive to me since I'm a bit anal and obsessive about a clean chain! That said, are there compatibility problems w/ a SRAM chain and a Shimano cassette?

It's been a while since I have used a SRAM chain on my bike but I have never had any problems with them and Shimano cassettes. The only reason I don't use them now is that my LBS gives me a great deal on the 9 speed Dura Ace chains.

If you are concerned with keeping the chain clean, you can use the gold SRAM power link with the Shimano 9 speed chains. Works prefectly for me. And it makes dropping the chain for cleaning so much easier.
