I'm planning a getaway with the family to NH this summer and thought I'd bring the bike along. I've always wanted to ride the Kancamagus. We're planning on staying somewhere near Bartlett so rather than riding it all the way from Rt 16, I thought I'd cut over to it on Bear Notch Rd. Herein lies my question: does anyone know if BNR is paved from end to end? I don't really relish the thought of climbing or descending on gravel, stone, dirt, etc.
Also, as long as I'm on the subject, any other tips, thoughts, suggestions on this ride?
Thanks,
PCM

I've been riding Bear Notch Road for the last 5 years when I spend a couple of weeks in NH near Freedom. Bear Notch Road is paved all the way. Last summer there were some repairs, but that just called for slowing down on descents
Kancamagus Highway is the most scenic ride that I have experienced. Enjoy.
A few words of caution…
The top of Kancamagus can be 10 degrees cooler and much windier than the valley. The wind can be tricky if you are struggling to go forward and the wind is gusting. It was like that last year over Memorial Day weekend. I haven't seen it too windy mid-summer.
I will be there from the 6/27 to 7/2 if you are looking for company.

There was a thread about Kancamagus last summer: "http://forums.roadbikereview.com/showthread.php?t=10724".
I'm the Latvian minister from Long Island in the first post.
