The governor has signed the Bicycle Safety Bill. Bicyclists may now legally:

1. Ride side-by-side if not impeding traffic
2. Ride across roads in safety crosswalks (obeying signals and traffic devices)
3. Signal right-hand turns with a bent left arm -OR- extended right arm
4. Now all law enforcement agencies are required to file a bicycle injury crash report upon request, even if a car was not involved (to better track bicycling statistics which determine road safety improvement projects).

The new laws take effect on July 1, 2005.

don't count on anything. I happen to know about these new laws, because I am a police officer and a cyclist, but many law enforcement officers don't. Don't be suprised if an officer says something. And please don't act above the law because you know the law and the officer doesn't, that won't help anyone. We are thrown new case law almost everyday and it is hard to keep it all in perspective. I'm not trying to say that anyone would or that people who read this are stupid, but it happens. Just be safe when you ride, plus everyone should be more worried about motorists than the police.
