Hopefully someone will have a good suggestion-
This Sat. evening (Jul2), we are going to see a performance at Round Top "Festival Hill." I am planning a daytime ride. So far my best idea is doing the road from Buescher St Park to Bastrop St Park, then back.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a scenic route in this area, near Round Top? I want a route between 25 and 50 miles. I usually like doing a lop rather than an out-and-back route. Thanks!

The Austin Cycling Assn "Bulldog Sandwich" 56-mile ride starts at the entrance to Buescher St Pk, goes north on 153 and 2104 to Paige, backtracks on 2104 to 2239, then east on 2239 to 448, north on 448 into Giddings (store), then backtracks south on 448 to 153, then west on 153 back to the start. If you eliminate the Paige and Giddings "out-and-back" legs, the remaining loop is 34 miles.

Me? I'd start the loop in Giddings (closer to Round Top), where 448 leaves US77 (or maybe at the intersection of 448 and 2239), south on 448, west on 153, add an out-and-back through the state parks 'cause that's the prettiest ride out there, and skip the Paige o&b leg on the way "home".

Enter Smithville, Texas on http://maps.google.com and zoom/pan as necessary to get printable map.

["Bulldog Sandwich":
--austex - thanks we might do this; how is the road -- is there a good shoulder in general? how much traffic on saturdays?

Road is typical Texas ranch/county road - decent paving, not much shoulder, generally light traffic. I just noted on the ACA ride schedule that Bulldog Sandwich is the scheduled ride July 2. The group will meet at the Buescher Park entrance around 7:30am for a 8:00 departure...

after our ride (buescher to bastrop), we showered at the park and went to an evening show at festival hill

this was really cool - a great classical music performance hall. combining the ride and show made it a really cool weekend. i recommend it as a great day trip for anyone in the region: austin, houston, san antonio.

i will have to work the bulldog ride into my schedule. thanks for the info.
