View Full Version : Performance Bike shipping is comical
coonass 03-31-2004, 03:00 PM My order is being tracked as follows:
It goes to Philadelphia, Pa, then to Seattle, WA, then back to the South.....
I hope it arrives with travel stickers :)
97 Teran 04-01-2004, 08:45 AM just in case it goes a little further south.
I once had a postcard or letter to me, I forget which, go through Panama. Problem is, it was sent from NY to Slovenia in SE Europe. Now if that isn't reaching between your legs to scratch your back...
Mudman 04-01-2004, 10:27 AM Here is a funny one. I ordered several items from Performance last week. I selected 2 day air as my shipping option. On Saturday I received my Co2 pump and cartridges (cant be air shipped), Monday I received the rest of my order.
So Fed Ex Ground was faster than Fed Ex 2 day air.......go figure
DoothaBartman 04-12-2004, 10:02 AM I placed an order on the first of the month. It didn't ship until the sixth. The customer rep said it went via USPS mail and should take at least ten to twelve days. That's really friggin slow.
johnny99 04-12-2004, 11:22 AM If you care about when you receive the package, phone in your order and get the order taker to verify that everything is in stock. The web site inventory is not accurate. Then, pay for 2 day shipping (only a couple of dollars more). Ground shipping from any big mail order house is at least a week.
I was looking to get some items before a big weekend of riding. I paid Performance extra for 2 day shipping. At the end of the second day, Amy, at customer service sends me a note saying one of the items was out of stock and that if I didn't contact them in 48 hours my order would be deleted. I immediately called to ask them to send the other items. I was told that all of customer service had gone home and that they were the only ones that could help me since my order was placed on hold. The next day I called back and talked to another representative at customer service. He was minimally helpful. In the end, I was far less than satisfied with Performance and will be looking elsewhere in the future.
yellowspox 04-12-2004, 07:03 PM A couple of weeks ago I placed an on-line order at 4A. I selected the wrong size clamp for the front derailleur but didn't notice it until about 5 minutes after hitting the "submit " button. I called customer service to correct the size but got told that there was nothing they could do as the order was already "processed". I wait a week to get the order, un-pack that item, repackage it, and send it back for the correct item....still waiting and no word from Performance. Then, I placed another order on 4/3. This one doesn't get "processed" until 4/5 and doesn't ship until 4/8. I'm still waiting on that one. 20% coupon or not....this crap is getting OLD !! That's before you pay the inflated shipping and state tax because they have stores in Illinois!

So You figure Perf. is responsible for the shipping route?
pitboss12 04-15-2004, 09:09 PM I bought a team performance membership online about 2 weeks ago. I've had good experiences with Perf. and got my stuff pretty quick unlike some of my riding buddies. I decided to commit and join up for the free fed-ex 2-day upgrade thinking everything would go smoothly. Still haven't seen my Perf. Envelope. I checked the website and there was a tracking number showing that it was sent through Donelly Logistics(never heard of them). I called customer service and talked to some guy that sounded like he had downed a 6 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon. He said it was sent out via USPS despite the tracking info on the perf. website and that's all Perf. knew about it. It's a freaking envelope! Why can't they fed-ex that to me? Is Lance riding across the country with my envelope in his jersey pocket to personally deliver it to me?
coonass 04-24-2004, 01:01 PM So You figure Perf. is responsible for the shipping route?
they should be concerned about it, afterall it does reflect on their promptness to deliver the goods. Based on the other comments, I know that Performance will be a second or third choice for any biking goodies.....Lickton's will also price match; and they and the other Mail Order sites will deliver in 3-5 days......the only reason I purchased at Performance was due to the sale of the Performanc brand Ultra Tights....great tights, just glad I didn't need them in less than 10 days :p

If he was, you would have gotten the envelope by now! :D
Cyclism 04-27-2004, 03:35 PM Yeah, something strange must be going on with them. I used to order from them regularly
up until about two years ago and they were unusually prompt and courteous.
Yesterday my buddy ordered a chain from them and they sent a confirmation of the order,
and then the order never showed up on the "Where's my order" button. He calls support
and they say they got the transmission but it didn't transfer to their ordering system properly.
Seems like a confirmation shouldn't be generated UNTIL it gets xmitted, neh?
Anyway, he resented having to be forced to hit the submit button again because they
couldn't get their act together ;) so Performance lost another customer... /shrug oh well.

They are way down my list of vendors because of that sort of thing, and only with a coupon and only for house brand sales or specials. I only get emailed order confirmations about half the time and it seems like a waste of time to go for second day most of the time since nothing goes out very fast.
Oddly enough even though Supergo and Nashbar are now part of the performance empire their service is still better than the parent company's. Of course Nashbar had some of the best order fulfillment software in the mailorder biz 15 years ago so they should be able to do it better than the half manual system Performance seems to have.
