July 15, 2005 - Boulder, CO - Frankie Andreu and a crew from the OLN Tour de France television team visited Hutchinson’s historical tire factory in Montargis, France on July 6th. OLN aired the “Infiniti Technology of the Tour” segment which highlighted the manufacturing process of Hutchinson tires during all three of its daily broadcasts of the Tour de France which is watched by about half a million viewers across the United States.
Taking advantage of the its close proximity to the Stage 5 finish, Hutchinson’s marketing team was able to lure Frankie Andreu to the factory to film a tech segment on the inner workings of one of the most technically advanced and oldest tire factors in the world. For their time, Frankie and his crew were rewarded with a rare documented tour of the factory that has produced tires for over 20 of the past Tour de France champions.
This unique segment highlights the manufacturing process from the mixing of the raw rubber products to the final vulcanization of a Tour de France ready race tire. The factory tour ends with Frankie explaining the exhaustive testing process endured by all of Hutchinson’s tires before they are allowed into the market. Andreu closes the segment simply stating this amazing statistic “perhaps this is why Lance Armstrong has never had a flat throughout all of his six Tour de France victories.”
