Just bought a new Madone 5.2 w/ Race Lites. I have the opportunity to upgrade to a set of Race X Lites for approx $400. Race X Lites are supposed to be about 200grams lighter per set. I believe both sets use the same rim but difference is in the hubs and spokes (plus Ti skewers)
Anyone out there who has ridden both who can comment if it is worth the upgrade?
Thanks in advance for your input

$400 to loose 200 grams and you are asking if it's worth it?

Sorry, but this decesion is a no brainer if you ask me.

Well I rode both wheelsets when looking at Treks and not surprisinglhy I couldn't tell the difference on a test ride around a few blocks.
But thats not to say there's no difference.

I would be tempted - you just dropped a bunch on the bike - wheelset upgrade is the best bang for the buck upgrade on a madone 5.2

Also you're not spending the 400 to save 200 grams - you'd be spending it to get far smoother and more durable hub and bearings.

Please include net worth and last 3 years tax returns. Also cycling resume and plans and goals for next three years. Otherwise how is anyone supposed to be able to evaluate the relative value of the improved performance of the wheels against the value of the cash to pay for it for your particular case? I ride with one guy who's a multi-millionaire and recently returned from a trip to the top of Mt. Everest, and another who's a student and is barely getting by. The answer would be different depending on which one was asking.

Thanks for the replys all. More info: I weigh about 175-180 and plan to use the Madone primarily for training for MTB and possibly an occasional race.
The geometry fit me and felt like a reasonable blend of stiffness, comfort, and weight. Also it was on sale plus 0% interst for 12 mo.-which answers the question if I am a millionare or not.
I have a set of Kings w/ American Classic 350g disc rims on my MTB so I prioritize wheels. dcp_nz hit it on the head that the upgrade from Race Lite to Race X Lites would be better hubs/durability-not necessarily feeling of less rotating weight. Thats why I ordered some lighter tubes and tires for the Madone as first upgrade.

Anyone comment on a different wheel upgrade w/ less rotating weight?

Yes, rotating weight is one of the last things you should be worrying about.

Let me get this straight: you just bought a Trek Madone and you're complaining to us about the wheels it came with? Get out and ride!
