View Full Version : Gios dressed with Croce d'Aune santosjep 07-25-2005, 04:58 PM Hi folks! Here are pictures of my friend's little project. :) Joe Spirito 07-26-2005, 01:26 AM bravissimo croce cranks just got a subtle beauty that is peerless. hard to find too. ciao Mel Erickson 07-26-2005, 06:55 AM That is a very nice ride. I think this is Campy's zenith for machinery as art. The Gios tape and bottle cage are very nice finishing touches as are the gumwall tires, very period. May I suggest he use two small lengths of cable housing under the bottom bracket? As strung, those cables will wear grooves into the BB. The bike was designed to use housing around the BB. Dave Hickey 07-26-2005, 07:22 AM Hi folks! Here are pictures of my friend's little project. :) Joe Outstanding. I really like the old log Cinelli stem and bar.... santosjep 07-26-2005, 08:08 AM These pictures taken do not give the bike's looks and attention to detail justice. The owner of this blue gem saved the Croche parts from the group's hayday. He did a great job keeping them in this condition. I've been trying to convince him to replace the saddle with a white Rolls Selle San Marco (Icing on the cake). Hopefully he does not box and store this Gios as he planned. I have to admit, it's too pretty to ride... even on a good day :D. Joe brewster 07-26-2005, 08:56 AM Ride it man! what good does it do to anybody in a closet! All us retro guys need get out and show off what real bicycle art looks like to all these newb's who haven't seen anything but a tig-welded aluminum bike and carbon fiber whatever. It appears this is the original finish on that Gios...yes? I agree with you, there is some generation confusion going on with that saddle. He needs a Rolls or Regal on that bad boy. I'd find a white Regal if were mine...it's the pinnacle of class. Mel Erickson 07-26-2005, 08:57 AM It would be a sin NOT to ride this gem. When it comes down to it, it's a bike. It's purpose is to carry people, not to hang on a wall or sit in a box. It's a very nice bike but not the most nice or historically significant bike around. It's not meant to worship. boneman 07-27-2005, 03:16 AM The bike has been nicely kitted out. I'm not a big fan of Croce d'Aune, preferring C Record from that era, but it sure looks nice on that Gios. Not a thing has been overlooked. Are those tubulars I see? Nice. As for boxing and storing, ride that bike. moschika 07-27-2005, 09:11 AM great looking bike. would be a shame to closet it away. about the only "odd" thing, like everyone else has said, is the seat. very nice. thanks for sharing. tube_ee 07-27-2005, 09:13 PM The bike has been nicely kitted out. As for boxing and storing, ride that bike. Agreed om the CdA, but with one exception... The "pushrod" rear derailleur is the best-shifting Campy mech from that era. Especially when paired with Mavic / Simplex "teardrop" Retrofriction levers... Like Buttah!! --Shannon |
