Is anyone familiar with the Shamal wheels, I have a pair of 8spd campy shamal wheels, can I; Slide a 9 spd cogset on the present hub and use it, change the cogset Hub to campy 9spd, change the cogset hub to shimano 9 spd, and if no to all above, rebuild wheel with different axle hub and what if any would you recommend to match up with the spokes!! The wheels are awesome and smooth, just can't use them anymore and want to!! Thanks Howxotk(HSevey@msn.com)

i'm no expert but, the short answer is no-won't work. i had a set of 8 spd. bora's and tried to convert them to use with my 10 s stuff but it was too much hassle. your best bet is try branfordbike.com. you'll most likely have to replace the axle/some cones/cassette body to be able to convert over to 10/9 s. however, as i found out depending on year of make it may not be doable. good luck.

Branford Bike use to sell them but does not anymore. They may be out of production now. These are thinner spacers that allow you to use your existing 8 cogs and buy one more 8 speed cog. The old spacers are not used and the new thinner Shift 8 spacers are used.
They show up on ebay every once in a great while.
Otherwise, the freehub should be able to be changed out for a 9 speed freehub. Check the Branfordbike.com site and see if they sell a Shamal compatible 9 speed free hub there. If not, I would email them. They should have a solution for you.
You cannot put a 9 speed set on an 8 speed hub. The groves in the nine speed hub are deeper and the 9 speed cogs will not fit on an 8 speed freehub.

Can I convert my 8s Shamal (or other 8s Fluid-Dynamic wheel) into a 9s by changing the freewheel body?
No, it is too dangerous because of clearance problems between the derailleur cage and the spokes.
The 8 speed Shamal hub had tolerances that were so tight that if you tried to install a 9 speed freehub body onto the hub that it would put the rear derailler dangerously close to the spokes and it is absolutely not reccomended.
If you look at a 9 speed Shamal wheel you will notice that Campagnolo increased the flange thickness so the rear der. was safely awat from the spokes.
There is no "SAFE" upgrade of 8 speed Shamal wheels
