I just ordered a bike from bikedirect and will receive it Wednesday. It has the Ultegra 10 speed rear cassette with a double up front. I have no experience with these "modern" shifters on the brake lever as my current bike, which is over 20 years old has the shifter levers on the down tube with no click stops, just gradually move the lever until the derealeur moves to the next cog. How do these newer brake shifters work. I fooled around with some in a LBS very briefly.

On the right hand side - move brake lever left (but don't squeeze or you'll brake at the same time) to goto a higher ring tooth in the back, click the 'trigger' to goto a smaller ring too.
Same on the left front.. move brake lever right (but dont squeeze.. ) to goto a bigger chainring. Click the button to goto your granny gears.

Thanks for the info. I think once I get the bike and take a stroll ride around the neighborhood it will make a lot of sense.
