Can I run the generic teflon lined housings with what will be my new Campy 10sp setup or should I get a Campy set of housings and cables? What's the difference?
Also will an older 8sp FR derailleur shift a 10sp setup till I get a 10sp derailleur?

New campy erog levers come with cables. Generic 5mm OD cable housing will work with ergo levers, just be sure you have the proper 5mm ferrules for the ends of the cables. Campy cables are 4.8mm in diamater and the ferrules won't fit on generic housing.

Generic cables may have shimano ends which are taller and bigger in diameter than campy. They will need to be filed down or they can get stuck in the ergo lever. www.bike toolsetc.com sells generic cables with a shimano end and a campy end, just cut off the shimano end.

IMO, campy cables are about the best out there, but they don't sell a shift cable & housing only set. All they offer is bare cables or a complete brake and shift cable & housing set for $35-40.

The 8 speed FD may work, but certainly not perfectly, since it should be wider than a 10 speed model.

I just replaced my handlebars with a FSA Kwing and replaced my cables and housing since I had to route them internally. I used a campy cable kit for my replacement cables and housing. Campy uses prelubed housing and does not use teflon in the housing or cable. I had previously used generic brake cables and had a difficult time getting the old one out of the lever. I basically had to cut the cable, push it through the back of the ergo lever, flip it out the other end, and push the cable end out using needle nose pliers. I don't want to do that again. I have never had a campy cable break on me, but I change them every other year. The 8 speed FD may result in a dropped or over shifted chain because of the amount of travel that will be involved to shift a narrow chain with a wide derailleur. There is a picture of my partial install over on the NCD forum.

The Campy outer casing cables I have use a plastic liner inside which the inner cable bears against.

If you are going to use generic cables, get 4mm derailleur casing instead of 5mm, it will be easier to route under the bar tape. For cables, look for "slick" stainless cables; they slide better and will not tear up the plastic liner that even generic casing uses.

Good luck.

My cable kit came with an explanation of why campy does not use teflon. Must just be regular plastic. Mine had a white grease looking lube in them. FYI, the Nokon cables would make alot of sense with the K wing bars because of the bend the derailleur housing must make leaving the ergo lever.
