Rebuilding my '87 3Rensho Katana, for a nice summer-time retro-ride. Overhauled the Dura Ace BB7400 bottom bracket with a used BB with a spindle in fine condition and loose bearings. (Wish I had bought more whenever I saw them.) I replaced the adjustable cup and lockring, too. I could not bust the fixed cup loose and sougth to save my knuckles. It looked okay with just some discoloration and no noticable pitting.

It went together nciely. I forgot how smooth, a fine loose ball bearing BB could be, not too mention the lightness. Give it a twirl and it spins forever! Even my 2-year old son could not resist giving it a spin and saying "I like it!"

Not like the new cartidge bearing systems. Granted the old ones are tougher to set up and adjust, vulnerable to wet weather and contamination, and not as durable, but they are nice. I won't get it wet so hopefully, it will last. Can't wait to get it out on the road again!

I couldn't agree more. Properly maintained, those BB's will last forever...
