I give up. I've been searching the internet for a long time now. Nashbar has a great price on this caliper and it meets my needs. What I'm confused about is if there is truly a different model for the front versus the back. It seems to me the only difference would be the length of the bolt (longer for front than rear) but I cannot confirm this ANYWHERE including Shimano's web site.

Anyone?
Well, I'm beginning to think they're different parts now...

Bought a pair, but I needed two fronts to work on a PX-10

Quality Bicycle Products offers two seperate calipers
front: http://harriscyclery.net/site/page.cfm?PageID=49&SKU=BR6601
and rear http://harriscyclery.net/site/page.cfm?PageID=49&SKU=BR6602
In the caliper brake parts section, they list only one item for both front and rear brake cable fixing assembly, cable adjusting unit, and cable fixing bolt and plate.
They have seperate listings for front and rear:
pivot bolt assemblies.
It looks like maybe the length of the bolt is the only difference. The only other possible difference would be in the caliper arm that contains the cable adjusting assembly, specifically in the angle or length, to adjust for how the cable housing enters it. But since they don't offer caliper arms as seperate parts, I'd guess not.

I have a pair, bought a few years ago for my custom single speed. Needed clearance for fenders and 25-28 width tires.
I just went down and checked them out with calipers and metric rule. The only difference is the length of the pivot bolt. They work very well with any Shimano brake/STI lever in terms of cable throw.

You likely already know, but they come in the recessed allen head bolt style only. The trick if fitting to an older frame without recessed mounting is to order two fronts, drill the rear of the fork to accept the recessed nut, and use an external nut for the rear (can be a little trickier too drill out the brake bridge).
