so i posted a thread yesterday about my bad luck with hutchinsons. anyway so i bought new conti's today and well... does anyone have any tips on how to plop this thing into the rims? ive managed to do one and 4/5 of the process, meaning that ive done one side, and part of the other side. its always the last leg wherein you have to make a huge effort with your palms to move the remaining tire bit into the wheel well.

if worse comes to worse, ll go to the local laundromat and dryer the crap out of these tires to make them fit. honestly, my hands are are blistered. im no weakling when it comes to these things but my hands are already injured from the last tire change bout i had when i forgot to put clincher tape. flats are my worst enemy

Use a tire lever.

Well, then, there's your problem.

They are for getting the tire off & on. Just have to take care not to pinch the tube - might put a hole in it.

I lubricate the bead on super tough tires. You only need to do the portion where it stops easily sliding over the rim. I use silicon grease used for water valve seals because it will remain there for the next time I need to repair the tire on the road and it doesn't hurt the rubber. You think it's tough to do now, try doing it when you're on the road. Even soapy water works.

You had one idea right as well, I heard getting the tire warm makes it more pliable but I'd use direct sunlight.

You can use the tire lever to push the bead over the rim, from the side (tangent to the rim and tire).

Try Pedro's big, fat, wide, yellow tire levers. I read about them in another thread and they work well on tight rims!

I got this neat thingy called a Quick Stik on the advice of a buddy at a local shop when my tire levers broke. You only need one and it works like a charm and in long enough to give you the kind of leverage a gorilla in a mafia movie, dreams of. You just slide the yellow bit under the lip and the little hook lip bit lets you slip it over the lip of the rim.
I would seriously recommend you get some clincher tape it's just a PLAIN OLD GOOD IDEA!!!!

Several tricks in mounting tires:

- talcum powder makes things slide a little better
- use the base of your palms and "roll over" the top of the tire to get the last bit on
- after you've got the tire mostly on, work your way around the rim pushing the tire bead to the center of the rim (lessens tension).
- put just a breath of air into the tube to give it some shape but not so much that it makes for extra effort in getting the tire on
- use tire levers judiciously when all else fails

Other ideas include manually stretching the tire (one foot on the ground, holding the tire, and pull up hard) and the tire in the dryer to soften it.
