This morning my Cateye was not registering. However, the display was lit and indicated my total mileage, but did not indicate current speed, distance, etc. Do I just need a new battery, or is there a problem with my computer? BTW, once in a while the computer stops functioning during a ride, but it always has quickly come back. Today it didn't register at all but the display was on. Thanks.

Is your Cateye wired or wireless? First, make sure that the magnet and sending unit are properly positioned. If that doesn't do it replace the batteries in both the sending unit and the head. Still no good? Email Cateye and describe the problem to them. There was a problem with the sending unit on their Cordless 7 model like mine and they replaced the unit and magnet without questions. Great service!

[Thanks, btw, its a wired unit, if that makes a difference. The positioning seems to be fine, I'll check the batteries.

A friend at work had a problem with his Cateye doing the same thing. He cleaned the contacts where the computer and base come together with a pencil eraser and it worked. Give it a try and let us know if it helps.

Yes, I did get it fixed, thanks for your input. The hardware (not the computer unit) was damaged, the lbs replaced it and now it's as good as new.

cateyes have a rep of being pretty decent. Put a wired version on the wifes bike and I am impressed.

I put on a Cateye Micro Wireless and it works really well. During my initial 16 mile ride I didn't encounter any interference or loss of signal at any time. I got mine from BikeSmart for $32.95 I believe which was the best price out there I could find.
