View Full Version : Bibs or Shorts?
Triker 08-06-2005, 05:53 PM I have only used shorts. I'm in need of some replacements and am wondering if I should switch to bibs? Why do folks use them instead of shorts?
I am an enthusiastic recreational rider in the 4000-5000 mile per year range with 200-300k's as my longest one day rides.
Thanks for the help
Duckman 08-06-2005, 06:04 PM Bibs don't cut into you like shorts typically do. The longer the ride, the better they are.
Yes, a dude can relieve himself by pulling the front down. Didn't think it would work until I read in at mtbr a few years ago, and had been doing otherwise until then. No problem. Bibs all the way for me.
cxwrench 08-06-2005, 06:10 PM why EVERY pro uses bibs...
dlbcx 08-06-2005, 06:13 PM Bibs, for the same reasons as the previous post. Also, I wear them because the guys I ride with, won't try to pull down!
Bibs are great, unless you gotta stop to go #2. Then not so great. So if your regularity kicks in on your morning rides, beware. Otherwise, bibs all the way. Try some moderate price ones, like the Voler RBR bibs, to see if you like them.
Hooben 08-06-2005, 08:19 PM Bibs are better if you feel your shorts riding down from the back of the waist. The suspenders really keep everything in place, regardless of standing or sitting.
blurry 08-07-2005, 07:21 PM bibs.... they dont ride down AND they tend to flatten your tummy abit ;)
Triker 08-07-2005, 07:30 PM Ok, I'm going to try a pair. Now to decide which brand.........

I wear bibs because the stay put. They are the only way to go in my opinion.
I have been happy with Performance Bibs. I think I get the Century. There usually a discount when you buy two pairs, plus you can probably find a 20% off coupon. If you are happy with the shorts you are using now, you can usually find the shorts
SkiRacer55 08-08-2005, 09:43 AM ...I happen to like Descente Aero Xs about the best...

Argentius 08-08-2005, 12:33 PM Bibs, for above reasons. Also, if a jersey has a tendency to ride up you won't expose anything or look funny. Cheap performance brand stuff wasn't worth it to me. I like De Marchi, Descente, and Castelli. Haven't tried Assos. Pearl Izumi's just don't fit my shape well -- either too baggy in the seat or too tight everywhere.
Timmons 08-08-2005, 01:31 PM Are there any bib makers that make them for tall thin guys? I'm 6'6" at 195 pounds.
vol245 08-08-2005, 05:36 PM I find the bibs are too hot in the summer. Other than that I like them. I don't really have any issues with my shorts though.
Serac 08-10-2005, 07:09 AM For those kind of miles. Try the Santini Gel Twist. These are my personal favorites:
