I just purchased a Shimano Flight Deck (10spd) and read that you have to input the cassette type for it to read properly, but was wondering if it would matter since I am using a compact crank?

It then COMPUTES your cadence based on your gear ratio and speed (thus, it gives you a cadence reading even when you're not pedaling). There is no cadence sensor near your pedals; it's all computed. Thus, your speed will read correctly regardless of the cassette and crank info you input (speed is read by the little sensor mounted on your fork), but cadence will be screwy if you don't set up the gearing. It's not the most intuitive thing to set up, so pay close attention to the instructions. Once it's set up properly, though, it works well. phil. 08-09-2005, 06:16 AM It won't matter as long as you input the correct info for your chainring's teeth count and also the correct info for the cassette.
