I am about to build a new wheelset and I need some expert opinions from the forum. I have been using Chris King/open pro ceramics, but the time to relegate them to back up set has come. I am 210lbs. ride a Chris Chance steel frame and when I ride the road (75% MTB) I mostly do longer distance, lots of climbs and canyon riding. I am looking for high performance , durable and Campagnolo 10sp. compatible for my next wheelset.

The Topolinos have impressed and intriguied me. I have done the usual LBS, website and anecdotal search. You are my last stop before I plunk down all the pennies from my piggy bank.

I am on the fence between the Topolinos and a set of White Industries or Campagnolo Record/ open pro ceramics.
Any opinions, suggestions, experiences or advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Tim

...a set of White Industries or Campagnolo Record/ open pro ceramics

You said it. You know what patterns have worked in the past, less spokes(custom system which you will never be able to pop into an LBS and repair), etc.

I would go Record, because of the great new axle and cone design.

I thought about Topos for the last three pairs of wheels I've purchased and in every case I've bought something else. First of all, I think they're pretty ugly and can't imagine them on any of the bikes I own. Secondly, while I don't generally worry about getting things fixed, in their case I can imagine it's an extra headache, even if it's a minor one. Third, for the dough, what do they really bring to the table that any other set of expensive wheels doesn't bring? If they really weigh 1390g, well gee - my Velomax Ascents really weigh 1465g and cost me almost $300 less. My custom pair from oddsandendos weighs 22g more and cost $500 less. (not sure at your size though, any of this relevant.)

I dunno, I guess I'd rather have two sets of Record/OPs than one Topolino. Did I mention I think they're really ugly?

My friend (dang, that's the second time in the past 5 min. I've used that phrase) has the Topos. Says they are light but he can't tell the diff from his other wheelsets. Mainly likes them because they are comfortable; he rides a carbon frame and weighs about 195.

We have a 195 lb rider in our club who tried them. Now he's a pretty powerful guy, but they flexed way to much under his weight and power. I think you'll need something a bit stronger.
