View Full Version : water bottle mounting
thegood 08-14-2005, 05:32 PM my bianchi pista doesn't have any frame bottle mounts, so i've been using the profile aqua-rack double bottle cage that fits onto my seat post. i kinda don't like it b/c the backs of my thighs make contact with the bottle cage. any suggestions, besides putting bottles in the back of my jersey?

1- Don't buy a track bike.
2- One of any of these.

Maybeck 08-14-2005, 08:30 PM hose-clamps, use black tape or some inner-tube scraps under so you don't scratch the paint. most standard clamp-on cages will not fit the shape of the Bianchi's down tube. although they will work on the seat tube.
weather 08-14-2005, 09:39 PM there's this thing called camelbak.

I second the use of hose-clamps. I've attached water bottle cages to more than one bike this way. I've never had a problem after the initial setup. Just make you get them on nice and tight.
thegood 08-15-2005, 02:05 AM thanks for the tips...i'm gonna try the hose clamps.
Kalukis 08-15-2005, 05:47 AM Hose clamps? On your brand new ride?????
I've tried the Zefal Clamp Gizmo and the TwoFish holder.
The Zefal is good. They're black bands, but will give you a better look than the hose clamps.
The TwoFish (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sku=13136&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=)
works ok. It uses a velcro strap to hold it on, so you've got to get it tight and then figure out what to do with the extra strap so it doesn't hit your leg
Good luck and don't succumb to the fixie beater mentality.

A small stainless hoseclamp neatly trimmed is going to look more at home on a steel bike than anything using Velcro. Velcro, yeech!
powerrp 08-16-2005, 04:04 PM Sorry to hear you don't like the Aqua-Rack. I think it's great! If you move it higher on the seatpost, you can probably avoid any thigh contact. I use one bottle slot for water, and I use the other one for tools. Works out really well.

yeah, that's what i do too. i've got a set back seat post, and i need to slide the saddle further back to get my knees in the right spot over the pedal spindle...with the aqua rack mounted further up, the back of the saddle interferes with the top of the bottles.
Kalukis 08-22-2005, 06:12 AM Well, I was a little concerned about how tightly the velcro strap on the Two Fish Holder would hold the water bottle. I had it on my seat tube. Mine got loose yesterday and rotated into the rear wheel...not good. The positive side is that the strap broke and nothing else (the bike or me) was hurt.
So, I'm going to the Zefel Gizmo holder--that's what I've got on my down tube. I guess the hose clamp would work as well and is easier to get--I've just got a little aesthetic heartburn over that one.
Live and learn.

glad to hear that you didn't get hurt. hose clamps aren't that ugly...you'll get used to it.
Maybeck 08-22-2005, 06:39 PM If you really want to do it right you can drill the frame and use "nut-serts". Which basically works like a high-end molly fastner. A machinest supply or Snap-On truck will have them. Almost as good as having braze-ons, and if you ever decide to have the frame painted you can have proper braze-ons done at that time using the holes you made for the nut-serts.
