I am considering a CX bike but want to try a few epic road-fire road rides first to see how my mid-30's back will handle a non-suspension ride before I cough up $ for a cross bike. I have a Bianchi Campione and want to put some hybrid tires on it that will handle gravel roads and paved roads. I bought a 28 in a Michelin with knobbies, but it will not fit on the bike. Does anyone have any suggestions? I think the biggest tire is a bald 28, as someone suggested in a previous post.

Conti Ultrasport 28s are skinniest of the fatties.

I would just cough up on the cross bike though. Once you get some serious floatey tires on it, your back may react differently. Fit is very important.
