View Full Version : Sorry Tennessee...
lodgeone 08-27-2005, 04:36 PM Well, I have been gearing up and doing some training for some races only to find that the races I was looking forward to doing...might not happen! Columbia TN has had a series for a few years, but might only have one race this year. The site for the folks in knoxville who put on the series is not responding, and I haven't seen anything for the race in Nashville. Oh well, There is the series in Georgia and one in Johnson City. If this keeps up, We will need to have a series here in Chattanooga! Which we should anyway, right?
Mosovich 08-27-2005, 05:08 PM We'll gladly welcome you to our races. We have ten in our series this year and all should be great. So come on down, we'll great you with a smile and gurantee you loads of fun!
humunuku 08-28-2005, 06:24 AM No you don't need a series in Chattanooga....just go up to the tri-cities and race. What we need is a lot of people going to the races we have, rather than having a lot of races all over that conflict with eachother. Eric did a great job last year putting on the MSG cross series and this year looks even better (trust me, I've been racing cross for a while...its a good series). www.msgcross.com you won't be disappointed.
Sadlebred 08-29-2005, 03:14 AM The GA CX website is www.georgia-cross.com. The schedule is already posted. I've heard great th ings about the Tristate series, too.
Mbikes67 08-29-2005, 05:16 AM Tennessee DOES need a series in Chatanooga, or elsewhere in the mid-state. For folks from Nashville west, a 5 1/2 hr drive to race for 60 minutes, then 5 1/2 hrs home is not appealing, no matter how good the series is.
lodgeone 08-29-2005, 04:45 PM The only ones I will probably do are some in the tri-cities and georgia. But Johnson City is around 4 to 4 1/2 hours away. To do an 11am race, gotta go up a day ahead. Most of the GA races are much closer than they are. I agree that we need to support what we've got, and I will, but I also agree that mid state TN needs more.

If I remember right, the Columbia folks did not post their schedule until fairly late in the year the last two seasons. Also, the rest of the TN folks (Memphis, Knoxville, and one or two races in Nashville) posted fairly late. Our guy over in Johnson City is the only one who seems to always stay ahead of the curve. I sure hope Columbia and Memphis go off again this year...I'm starting to feel that need to lose some more races.

Just a thought, but you could drive over to do a Saturday race in the Mud, Sweat, and Gears Series in Johnson City and then hit a NC race on Sunday. Tim hasn't filled out the calendar yet, but last year, there was a great race in Valle Crucis. The Hendersonville weekend is gonna be awesome, too. Most NC races are within 2-3 hours of Johnson City and most are on Sundays.

lodgeone 08-30-2005, 05:29 PM I emailed the Columbia folks. They said the director of previous races wasn't doing it this year, but they may do one on January 8. That is too bad, those were really good courses.
Johnson City's site is very good and has had their schedule, with maps of the courses, up for a while.....I look forward to going up there.
I don't know if Jesse Lawlor(?) is doing the Cumberland Cyclocross Challenge in Nashville this year.
I am still holding out for KnoxieCross as well. Though if we lose Columbia, Knoxville, and Nashville...another series will have to happen.

For those in Nashville and in Memphis:
We are having a race in Carbondale, IL on Oct 15th. It's 3 hours from either city. From Memphis you come up 55 and from Nashville you drive on 24. We'll likely get a bunch of guys down from St. Louis like last year so it should be a good event. The course is great. There's a race in St. Louis the following day for those that want to double-up.

clippard 09-14-2005, 09:06 AM Per Joe Bowers at Cumberland Transit, they are planning on hosting a cross race in Nashville again this year. No details yet, but likely in early December in Shelby Park. They ran a great race last year.
lodgeone 09-14-2005, 04:55 PM Thanks for the update. That is good news. Last year's Nashville race was my first cross race. I also emailed the folks in Knoxville and they are doing KnoxieCross again in Jan/Feb. It is looking up for us.
