I've been riding road for years and am about to buy my first 'cross bike. What pedals are good choices for cyclocross training/racing? By the way, I use Speedplay X/2's on the road. Thanks for any input.

Thanks for any input. Eggbeaters are the standard and don't get gunked up with mud. I personally prefer an eggbeater with a platform, like Crank Bros Candy SL's. There was a recent thread on this topic dealing with pedal/shoe combinations. That said, I've used ATACs and Eggs for racing. Currently, I'm using Eggs on all my bikes. I don't find the lack of a platform a detriment. When you're clipped in, your weight is supported on the axel whether you go with the Candy or the Egg. I also find clipping in easy. If I don't hit the spot exactly, I just push my foot forward and the pedal rolls right onto the cleat. ATACs are nice too -- but I like Eggs best. atpjunkie 08-29-2005, 09:35 AM eggs are the new kids on the block. Eggs have gotten quite popular especially with the invention of the Candy's (which function pretty much like an ATAC). some swear by the original platformless eggs but other's refer to them as LEGBeaters as missed clip ins etc..an take sizable chunks from your shins. Both designs are great at mud shedding, I'd say choose the eggs if you are really confident with your clipping in (especially when cross eyed) otherwise go Candy or ATAC. our Club I think has a Crank Brothers gig, so I may switch this season. Otherwise I'll stick to my ATACs, I've never had a problem. 10speedfiend 08-30-2005, 06:48 PM As Von mentioned, this topic has been discussed over and over ... try a search. Recently bought a new set of candies and had to remove a ton of rubber off my Northwave shoes to get them to clip in reliable every time. And after all my hard cutting grinding and sanding, the cleat is the only thing really contacting the pedal anyway so as far as im concerned I would go with the eggs. Wade2 |
