A local series this year will have a Singlespeed Category. I was thinking of trying it out while I am already there for the regular "C" class.

My question is I have a rigid singlespeed Juan Solo and wanted to know what type of gearing would be best. Currently set up with a 32/20.

I have a 18t cog, and would consider getting skinny 26in tires (recommendations?)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Some of this will depend on your preferences but in general I think you would want a bigger chainring for cross on a mtb than the 32. Maybe a 42 or 44 up front and 18 or 20 in the rear?

BTW... that is a good way to get a second race in. I don't know if I could do two cross races in a day. Crits are easy to double up on but I'm wasted after a cross race.

We didn't have a SS class, but that didn't matter much. I ran a 44/18 with Michelin 1.3 JET S tires. It was a little too big if it was a muddy incline (I ran up it).

I usually run 32/16 on it for trail riding. Here's a pic of the setup.

Nice looking Fisher. But how do you get away with that brake setup? Doesn't the fork travel change the cable length and prevent proper braking on the front?

I have that same Pace carbon fork. It looks like a suspension fork because of the clamps used for the brake studs. BTW, it's a very nice rigid fork for the MTB. I love mine.

Nope didn't matter....Raced the same series (but in C's), and SS'ers took 1st (and 2nd in some cases) in the A's. Too bad you and a bunch of the other folks got sent out to DC. Hope they have some CX for you there.

Dude that bike rules. To bad you built it up with insufficent power. :D here's a pic of last years cx bike and a pic of this years cx bike. I hate you won't be tasting its wrath like you did last year, home skillet.
