Anyone using the speedplay drilliums?

I find myself running errands in street shoes on the SS, and was considering picking up some of these. Sure appear sweet n light.

These look bonita -- replaceable platform pins, grease port, 12 mm spindle & 3 bearings (one neeedle and two ball) in each.

Anyone used them? Are they Pro or con for my utility bike? I am wanting something that grabs real well and I can wear whatever kick the mood requires.

(perhaps this sould be listed in commuting, but I commute on my SS so i'll call it a hybrid post)

Thanks

They look pretty hot but I think they retail for a bit over $100... stop by the downhill / freeride section of your LBS and see what they have sitting around, I guarantee you can find something cheaper than $100 and still be quality.

I agree with asterisk. Performance and Supergo are always blowing out their versions of these pedals. They don't always have the sweet concave platforms, but I don't think that really matters for heading down to the 7-11.

How would they be cornering...not sure what you ride, but they might be more susceptible to pedal strike that a lower profile "track" pedal. If you get them let us know the results...I've been toying with replacing my clips/straps with a bmx type pedal for around the town use.

They suck for cornering. At least the ones I have do, and I've had 'em on MTB and Road and Crusier frames. But the OP wants 'em for an SS, not a fixed, so I can't imagine it'd be a deal breaker.

You just agree to coast inside-pedal up through the turns in exchange for the convienience of wearing whatever shoes you happen to have on when you decide to run down to the corner store.
