View Full Version : Selling a BMC SL01 ... Complete or Parts?

Hi All,

It looks like I'm going to sell my 2005 BMC SL01 (the aluminum frame) and am trying to figure out whether I should sell as a complete bike or just the frame and fork...

Under any other circumstance I would say that I stand to do better by parting it out but since the SL01 is a relatively unknown frame I question how much interest there will be in the frameset only. Someone might be more interested in a full DA bike with the intention of "trying it out" keeping the parts if the frame turns out to be a disappointment.

I don't need to sell the parts as I can use them on a new bike (even though I *want* Campy on that one). So... would you eBay it as:

58cm BMC SL-01, EC90SLX fork (upgrade), EA50 post, FSA headset

-or-

All of the above + 2005 DA-10, handbuilt White/Velocity wheels, Arione, Newton

The parts are nearly new with around 1000 miles on them. The wheels have about 100 miles on them.

I'm afraid that lack of interest in the frame will cause me to take more of a bath on it than I would the whole bike. On the other hand, I know that I'll get about 50 - 60 cents on the dollar for the DA parts.

Thoughts?

I seem to remember seeing a few BMCs in the last month or so on ebay--do a search to see how they did. don't expect too much--I am always happy to get anything near 1/2 of what i paid--sometimes i do well, other times not. alwasy seem to do better if i have the time and inclination to part it out, but mostly i sell entire bikes as it means just one listing, one package, one trip to the psot office, etc.
If i was trying to max the profit, I'd always part it out.
clean it well and take clear photos and you should do fine

Thoughts? I think you're spamming...

"I have this _______ I'm going to sell. What should I sell it for?" Classic!! And pretty easy to see through...

Why not just post it in the classified section instead of circumventing them and posting it for free here?

Yes... you are absolutely right... I'm trying to avoid paying the $2 fee for a classified by posting here.

Actually, I was asking an honest question. I have a frame that I have yet to see for sale in any frequency anywhere. There's one listed here in the classifieds and that is the first one that I've ever seen for sale.

I was simply asking, as I mentioned in my original post, if I would have better overall luck selling the frameset alone (which would essentially require a buyer looking for this particular frame) or if I should sell it as a complete bike (which may attract a larger number of people interested in the build kit). I was hoping that other posters with experience in selling non-mainstream frames would be able to lend some advice. I'm not looking to sell the frame here or on the RBR classifieds... It's going up on eBay.

Parting it out will reap the best results. While you probably will get 50% or less than you paid for the frame, the parts will fair better. If you sell it as a whole bike you will get 50% or less for everything.
Keep what you want, sell what you don't.
