OK, put up or shut up. Let's see who is a true American here. I challenge the Neo cons to a battle over donations. Who can give more: bleeding heart liberals like me or cold hearted conservatives? Try not to lie. Lets see who can give more money to the relief effort. Winner gets the forum for an entire week, losers must praise or condemn Bush for that whole week. Agree?

Post your pledge and the amount, we will add it up in one week. Lets go Fixed, Steam, et al, put your money where your patriotism is.

This is typical of the libby BS. All I will say is I donated a few days ago. You seem to be a bit late in your efforts. However I am sure it is still appreciated.

Ted Turner settled this years ago in the "put up or shut up 1000 points of light challenge"

If you recall Steam, I put out the call for the adopt a soldier thing. Some things are non-partisan. I thought we could have a little fun here.

Fixed, you better pray extra hard on Sunday. "Can I count my taxes?" Mighty Christain. Your fellow Americans need you right now, and you can't even sping for the cost of a tank of gas. Nice. I am sure there is a special place in heaven for you.

Not so fond of the liberals either. What gives OES?, you should give a dollar for every word you say against Bush. Even Steam, loser that he is, gave a little.

Come on, we are AMERICANS. You can all do better. Put off the next bike purchase and make a tiny sacrifice.

Don't assume that because someone does not respond to your thread that they are not helping. How, how much and when people help is none of your business and is a very personal thing.

Why don't you start and impress us all and tell exactly how much you are helping. The total amount as a percentage of your annual income would also be helpful in gaging your generosity. Almost forgot - Try not to lie

Let me just say I was hoping we could all thump our chests here a bit and pledge what we can/will do. Ugh

I have pledged 150,000 dollars for the next two years. I pledge 75,000 for this year and 75,000 for the next when it gets less fashionable. Sorry, it took me a little while to get everything in order.

Didn't you want to bet me like 2,500 that Hillary would never be president? Why don't you put that out.

The rules are total donations, not as a percentage of income. I am waiting on you now. Impress me. Mind you, I can back up my claim.

..not as a percentage of income....

That's not the part I was referring too.

I consider donations to charity and such a personal matter.

I agree, "chest thumping" and "charity" seem like incompatible concepts to me.

Independent of Katrina, I know that the highest levels of charitable giving (relative to income) come from poorer southen states; I think Mississippi is 1st. The lowest levels come from higher-income "bleeding heart" northeastern states, like Mass. and Vermont (my home state). So looks like by that measure the evangelicals are beating the bleeding hearts, even though the tend to make less money and therefore have less disposable income.

This is stupid. You have no idea about what some of us give to charities. Some of us prefer to keep things confidential, too. You would probably be shocked at what has been donated even to other members of this forum, regardless of political views, too. One thing that sucks about public giving is that as soon as you do, then every charitible and quasi-charitable cause on the planet floods you with junk mail and phone calls to solicit more. But then, you probably already know that from experience.

Also, taxes are not neglible, and some of that money does go to disaster assistance, rebuilding, relocation, and prevention. To poo poo that is to ignore reality.
