Does anyone know if my circa 2004 DA 7701 race wheels will accomodate a 10-speed cassette? Or are they only for 9-speeds?
How about my OpenPros w/ Ultegra hubs, circa 2003 or so? Will theyy?
I am considering upgrading to 10-speed stuff and need to know if I need new wheels.

Yes, they will work. 9 speed hubs will work with 10 speed cassettes..

Cool. Thx. I guess it's the wheels that are made especially for 10-speed cassettes that are not compatible w/ 9-speeds - and not the other way 'round.

Correct. There is one 9 speed shimano wheelset that won't work with 10 speed cassettes and I think it's the WH-540. It has something to do with the way the spokes attached to the rear hub. The cassette rubs. Your Dura Ace 7701 wheels will work great. I have first hand experience with a 10 speed cassette on those wheels

I don't think that the 7700 wheels will work with a 10sp cassette with a final cog smaller than 25T. I believe it, again, has something to do with how the spoking is done on these wheels.
The best way to clear up your question is call Shimano USA, 949 951 5003 I think the number is if my memory serves.
