I bought a 2004 Chorus group not long ago, but minute the cassette as I was switching from Shimano at the time and didnt feel like buying new wheels. A hub failure has prompted my final change over.

Ordering a new campy wheel, and need to buy a cassette. I had been using an American Classic 12-23 conversion cassette, a piece that was chosen after using a 13-23 Shimano piece for so long.
I really have no use for an 11t cog, and Campy is just releasing the 12-23 configuration at a few of the lower levels (Veloce, Centaur). Shopping around though, it seems that lockrings are not supplied on any cassette other than those ending with eleven tooth cogs?
What is the deal here? I'm browsing totalcycling.com and it looks like my options are to buy a Veloce 12-23 and a £24 lockring for £64, or an 11-23 Chorus cassette for £54 and get a lockring gratis.

Is this right? What is the reason for this practice? All cassettes will need a lockring, so why are some not supplied with one?

it's been my experience that campy supplies a L/R (for 12/13 T ist cog-11 extra) with their hubs & wheelsets. that may have changed cause i haven't bought either i a couple of yrs. try eBay-i picked up and extra for $15 recently.

There is a special lockring for 11 tooth cassettes that comes with every 11 tooth cassette. All Campy hubs come with 12+ lockring, so you should be covered.
