I'm confused..
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2005/sep05/sep19news2
1 Danilo Di Luca (Ita) Liquigas-Bianchi 209 pts
2 Jan Ullrich (Ger) T-Mobile Team 140
3 Lance Armstrong (USA) Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team 139
4 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) T-Mobile Team 136
5 Levi Leipheimer (USA) Gerolsteiner 131
6 Bobby Julich (USA) Team CSC 130
7 George Hincapie (USA) Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team 129
8 Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) Fassa Bortolo 128
9 Davide Rebellin (Ita) Gerolsteiner 126

Basso is 19th with 86 points. While he had a great year with some wins, they must not have been worth many points. I think he won the Tour of Denmark, 2 stages at the Giro and 2nd overall in the TdF. Funny thing is that the top team in the Pro Tour is CSC and the top nation is Italy.

Pro Tour rankings are f-ing retarded. DiLuca has had a good year for sure, but better than Petacchi or McEwen? Hell no.
And why the hell is Armstrong still way up there. He essentially did ONE RACE.
McEwen has been racing ALL YEAR. And winning. GT stage wins have got to count for way more next year. At least half the points of a classic win. You want to win the Pro Tour? You had better be prepared to race at the GTs then, and not hot dog it.
Also, why the TdF bias? Savoldelli and Heras aren't even in the top 10.

Agreed. Heras is 15th and Savodelli is 18th. McEwen is 88th! behind such standouts as Franco Pellizotti, Angel Vicioso , Tadej Valjavec and Joaquin Rodriguez. Who can forget the great year those guys have had.

So that you can see how the points are assigned, go here (http://www.uciprotour.com/home.asp?1stLevelID=za&level1=6&level2=0&idnews=3020)

Am I reading that right that GT "stages, half-stages, and prologues" are awarded 3, 2, and 1 point for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively? That seems pretty damn poor; I mean, sure some of the one-day races are a bigger deal than a GT stage, but you have to beat the same field of sprinters to win the Milan-San Remo as you do to win a TdF stage. Surely it can't be right to award as many points for winning a single classic as you would for winning 17 (!) GT stages. I guess they wanted to emphasize the whole calendar and not just the GTs; if GT stages were valued the same a classics, a sprinter like Pettacchi would be pretty untouchable...all in all I don't think it's such a bad thing that a rider like Di Luca wins; he's shown solid form all season, and gotten some good results. Maybe they could "grade" GT stages, like make a mountain top finish worth more than a bunch-sprint finish.
