Bianchigirl 09-22-2005, 08:51 AM I doubt he was worse than the British Eurosport team who spent a lot of their time discussing Union Jack underpants.... Not to be patriotic, but I have met Brad Wiggins and he's a thoroughly nice bloke and I thought his 7th place - after his win in the big mountain stage in the Tour de l'Avenir - showed good progression for him as a rider - and he's still only 25 and already a Gold, Silvcer & Bronze track medallist. It's funny, I always think of Wiggins as a much older rider, just because he has been around the block for some time. I looked at the Avenir results a few weeks ago and was shocked he was racing in it. The guy had a good result today and has a promising future in time trials. Do you think he will turn into a specialist like his countryman David Millar or be more of an all rounder capable of winning races like the stage at Avenir? Nice work by Rogers. I was hoping for a top 5 for Julich, but it wasn't meant to be. And who expected the first guy out Matias Medici to stick in the top ten by the end of the race. Anyone heard of him before? As for the french performances, it looks like they should have put Jeannie Longo in this race. Chavanel took 30th, right behind Fumiyuki Beppu, while Moreau finished 44th right behind Linas Balciunas of Lithuania. Silas Bianchigirl 09-22-2005, 10:10 AM Unfortunately, I think Wiggins will expend most of his energy on the track - he wants to win more Olympic medals in 2008... Einstruzende 09-22-2005, 02:19 PM What's odd is that Mick only wins the World TT. He seems to get his butt handed to him at all the GT TTs. I sure wish Dave Zabriske could have ridden this year. Bianchigirl 09-23-2005, 12:40 AM in this age of increased specialization I expect we'll see Rogers dominate the Worlds and not really ride anything else... To be fair, he is obviously great for a day but can't handle the TTs in the context of a 3 week race naawillis 09-23-2005, 12:44 AM in this age of increased specialization I expect we'll see Rogers dominate the Worlds and not really ride anything else... To be fair, he is obviously great for a day but can't handle the TTs in the context of a 3 week race i couldnt agree more, but i still lament that fact. i mean, its the world championships. who doesnt want to be the world champion? makes me think these guys arent doing it because its fun... To be fair, Ullrich has won it a couple of times, so I can see why he wouldn't want to keep doing it. That bum Armstrong on the other hand... I think Zabriske is injured, else he would have been there. |
