i'm building a commuter/city bike.
i was set to buy a 105 triple with 52/42/30 rings.
i have a splined 105 bottom bracket already.
(i had another bike i'd ran with a 105 crankset last year. i parted it out last spring, sold the crank and kept the bottom bracket.)
but, i just saw an interesting option at nashbar. a truvativ "trekking" crankset, with a 48/38/28 set of rings. actually, that ring set-up is exactly what i'd been looking for. when i ran the 105 previously, i rarely, if ever, used the big ring. i just bopped around the city on it and if i did any real miles i hopped on my roadie.
for this bike, i figured a 48t big ring would be perfect for commuting and city riding. in fact, i've been thinking of immediately swapping out the 52t ring for a 48t, if i buy the 105. but i dont know anything about truvativ and its products. the 105 crank worked fine, never had any problems with it and it was light enough for my purposes. typical shimano competence.
but what about the truvativ? anyone know anything about their products or this crankset specifically?
i'm not looking for anything special, just a crankset i can bolt on and not think about again. they're both about the same price.
any feedback would be much appreciated.
thanks.

I don't have any experience with Truvativ's triple cranksets, but I have their cyclocross 48/39 with an ISIS BB. It seems at least as stiff as my Record 10 (Al) cranks, and I've not had any reason to complain about the performance or reliability in 10 months of use.

The 48/39 is Ok for city/commute duties with the 12-25 (9 sp) cassette I have with it, and I try to do faster road riding with it as well. But I feel that a 10 sp 13-26 would be perfect, then I'd have the 16T and 18T gears which are very handy.

I would buy a Truvativ crankset again. If they made a non-carbon double 50/34 'Compact' like FSA, I'd probably buy it.
