View Full Version : Well allright, finally got the hub and built up the BMC SLT01 last night.
carbonLORD 09-23-2005, 11:58 AM Its nice, I'm really happy with the way it came together. I tuned it and trained on my Kreitlers all last night. I rode in to work this morning (and cant wait to get the hell outa here) but comming off of TT bikes pretty much my entire life, road geometry and drop bars will take a bit of getting used to, plus, this is my first Campy group set so my hands are all over the place for a little while. Its not overly stiff, but the rear is much more stiff then the front. Tracks and corners like a dream, accelerates like nothing Ive ever ridden before and complete, it weighs only 15.9 lbs, mission accomplished (well, I wanted to be in the lower 15's anyway but saddle swap and the Ti bolt kits should take it a little closer to there). I'm doing 50 miles after work, and a century on Sunday so I'll keep posting as it goes.
and now some big pics, enjoy :) Cheers!

Dwayne 09-23-2005, 12:19 PM I think I just soiled my pants after looking at that, especially the seat tube/top tube junction.
Beautiful. http://www.blewsclues.com/images/smilies/drool.gif
merckx56 09-23-2005, 02:52 PM Lord Vader, your bicycle is complete...
So everyone is clear...THIS is bike porn. A Trek with Ultegra is not...
Use this as a gudeline and no one will get hurt... :D
Endless Goods 09-23-2005, 04:33 PM sick...sick...sick...
Derailer 09-23-2005, 06:22 PM Wow, that is one of the nicest bikes I have ever seen.
carbonLORD 09-23-2005, 07:19 PM I took it for 40 miles, as it got dark, and I ran into two of my cycling bud's who held me up for 10 minutes or so each with ooohs and ahhh's, thats nice comming from a Colnago 50th owner :)
I'm really happy with the performance of this bike. It is the most solid feeling bike I have ever ridden, even more solid then my friends Colnago, but he needs a bit of a tune up anyway :p The Record stuff shifts really solid and precise and my hands have already found a wealth of positions that feel good. Its a rocket ship! I am tall, 6'3" and can really push this machine. No flex in the rear, at all, might change the forks though, they are too thin blade aero for the way I want to hammer on this beast.
One thing I am not 100% on is the front end height, and the stem length/angle. I might just remove all of the spacers and try and find a good 110 or 115mm stem (both difficult sizes to find in a top quality stem, I think), and perhaps an even rise so that it lines up with the top tube horizontally. Any thoughts? Syntace goes from a 105mm to a 120, and I had a 120 on my last bike and felt a little stretched out.
I could pick and prod at that kind of stuff all night. Ive almost dialed in the saddle and post height and the post needs to come down, just a smidget. Any suggestions on the front, I'm all ears.
Thanks for the comments. Sorry I post so long. Thanks for reading.
Cheers!
cpuffe 09-23-2005, 09:47 PM carbonLord, nicest bike I've seen in a long time. Enjoy.
omniviper 09-23-2005, 09:59 PM you defintiely are the carbon lord. gotta love the zero grav brakes.

You read my mind on the fork. Thinking a carbon stem to go with the theme.
cydswipe 09-25-2005, 08:51 AM Man, I've lusted for that frame since I saw one. That is an awesome machine. What are those wheels? The Hed 40's? The decals are a nice compliment over last year's all white. You are a lucky b@st@rd. I'm going to now punch myself in the neck out of jealousy. ;)

Wheels are just a set of 02 HED Alps clinchers (great bang for the buck training wheel) which have a 50mm fairing. Was waiting for a Campy casette body but they changed the design of the rear hub so I had to wait and received the 06 hub last week.
I made the decals myself :D Thanks.
4bykn 09-25-2005, 11:25 AM If you can call any bike sexy...that's the one!
wayneanneli 09-25-2005, 11:58 AM Wow, that is a really, really nice bicycle you have. Like the 0G brakes and campy parts. So, have you satisfied your bicycle lust, at least for the moment? ;)
Cheers, Wayne

Yeah, well... Does it truly ever end ;)
I would like to try and manage one of these for a winter project (even though this SLT 01 was supposed to be my winter project) :D

Interbike should tell us weather or not they will be around, and for how much next season. We'll see...
divve 09-25-2005, 07:15 PM 12000 CHF or about $9300. After the US distributor is done with you it's probably 15K for the frameset.

pdainsworth 09-25-2005, 09:52 PM That is one kick-a$$ bike, you lucky S.O.B. :p
upstateSC-rider 09-26-2005, 11:00 AM Love the bike. I'd really like one of those Streetfires but can't really get much info on them besides the web-site.
Truly is bike porn. :)
Lou.

The Streetfire frameset has been discountinued for 06. I can get you a small or an XL Streetfire in Phonak livery...

Aargh. That figures. :(
Thanks but I'd like a medium, preferably the all-black one. I think the SSX?
Lou.
carbonLord - Can you tell me what size frame that is? Thanks.
carbonLORD 09-27-2005, 08:17 AM carbonLord - Can you tell me what size frame that is? Thanks.
Its a 57, and fits HUGE I am 6'3" with a 34" inseam and its just right. Stand over height is mor like a 58cm frame due to the machined lugs.
BMC said I needed a 61cm when I inquired earlier in the season! I have no idea why they would have recommended that size, even the 59 would have been huge.
Not sure the streetfire are the same geometry as my SLT01 though. I'd check BMC's web site http://www.bmc-racing.com/bikes.cfm?lang=eng&catID=4 and see what is different between the models.
I really did about 2 months of research (and a lot of measuring) before I decided the 57cm SLT01 was the way to go, and managed the one I have without ever seeing one in person, so I kind of got lucky. :)
Good luck.
- I'm a bit under 6'5" and by looking in QBP's book that lays out all the geometry and measurments I figured you'd be on a 59 but looking at the pic's, your headtube doesn't look that big, kinda nice looking you know? - Us tall guy's always get punished with MONSTER headtubes in most examples.
So, it's good to know they run big at BMC.
- Last winter I lost sleep over this frame or the 555 from Look. I went with the 555 mainly because I could see it before buying it. - It's nice having Veltec in my backyard.
But I tell you what, now that BMC has that CNT frame goin' on.... that could be my next bike! :D
- Speaking of Easton & CNT, have you thought about the offerings of forks from them?
I noticed in one of your post's you were looking into another fork, and in the pic's I can't make out what kind of fork you are running. Is it an Easton w/o stickers???
Thanks again!

No problem. The fork is one of my own (carbonLORD.com) but is just a bit on the flexy side when I'm really crankin'. Its 350g and raked. I might look into a beefier slightly heavier Reynolds Integrated Ouzo Pro. I sold the CNT Easton straight leg fork that came with the frame set because other cycling friends of mine said it was flexy and I am not particularly fond of straight non-raked forks anyway.
Interesting, making your own forks & stuff, that's pretty d@mn cool! :)
I had not heard the Easton stuff being flexy, but then I don't have 1st hand experiance either. I CAN say, you may want to look into LOOK HSC offerings. Pretty impressive stuff.
Nice chatting w/you. :) Enjoy that sweet ride & get us a long-term report back when you can. :)
tidelag 09-27-2005, 11:46 AM aaahh. beautiful beast!
althought I am not so happy for deep profile wheels myself. Sensive for sidewind, y'know! :D
btw, really cool brakes. lightweighted. How are these compared to campagnlo/shimano if you have tried other brakes?
I want such brakes when I've got less brain and (much) more money! :p
Beautiful weight. 7.4 kg.
- I can tell you from my experiance that they are at least right-on par with Dura Ace but weigh 1/2 as much.
Finicky to setup, but once dialed in they're a dream.
Spendy for sure but well worth it. And be ready for inquiries/compliments from fellow cyclists. :)

OK. thanks for the reply!
Was worried that they was weaker or had worser modulation.
Well, enought of this. Let us glance and adore the threadstarter's bike! :D
