How's road riding in Oly. Pen.? Good roads/shoulders? Biker friendly? Going with wife who hasn't ridden much, will probably be up to doing 30 - 50 mile rides by the time we go. Any rides of this length without long/steep climbs? Going end of July. Thanks!

p.s. Other option is North Cascades Park, that looks like almost purely a mtb place. Chance we'll do that instead, checking all options.

I've never ridden on the other side of the bridge, but I've been over there dozens of times. On the whole, it would be pretty tame. You can find some climbs that would test you and your wife, but by and large, I doubt there's anything there that will kill you.

The roads are good - not much frost damage out here, and shoulders are pretty good, too. Traffic would be a major concern. Remember, if you think it's a nice day for a ride, a gazillion other people will concur and show up in their cars. Generally the drivers over here are pretty cool and attentive, but it only takes one. I would suggest going during the week.

FWIW, up 101 on the west side of the Hood Canal and Hurricane Ridge (near Pt Angeles) are on my to-do list.

I've never ridden road in the North Cascades either. But having driven them and done some climbing there, it seems a bit rougher. More up and down, but oh, man - fantastic views. I've done some mtb in the Wenatchee/Leavenworth area which absolutely rocked.
